Another sign Greek systems are taking it on the chin - Alabama's Machine usually controls SGA elections. Not this time - Elliot Spillers defeated Stephen Keller from Baton Rouge. Several Alabama football players campaigned for him. I'd say the controversy over sororities refusing to allow black members has come back around to bite them and energized the non-Greek students which comprises about 70% of the voting base.

Lots of out of state students at UA these days. Most of the "endorsed" slate was out of state students. Only a couple of in state guys.

This is big news and a big deal for Alabama. There was a huge voter turn out, which is rare. It seemed like Elliot was a great candidate and ran a great campaign, good for him. Seemed to be a lot of sororities and ATO going against the alleged "machine" candidate.

It is. I started a thread about it a while back…asking why so many of the "BR Elite" leave town to go to Alabama and Ole Miss. I was pretty much told it was a greek thing and it was about rich kids just wanting to get away from home.
