Do you absolutely need a joystick?

two of my friends play with keyboard and mouse and say they love it - so I'm going to go with no, I just know I really enjoy it with my joystick.

Dang am I playing way more than you? I have made about 700k since buying it. I have been doing mining. Nothing like finding an asteroid of platinum that sells for 17k a ton.

that's pretty much a given I don't just play Elite, been playing Mario Kart and League as well, on top of that I always like to watch TV with the wife at night before I play any video games... it just is what it is.

Now that I have the viper I'm going to start doing more of the mining stuff, right now I pretty much do only the black box and conflict zone stuff.

I have the Cobra and bumped up a bunch of its parts. Got mining lasers and a few fighting hardpoints as well to fend off pirates.

Choosing between this and pillars of eternity is becoming impossible for me.

I used to play the shite out of flight Sims on my custom desktop. Joystick, headset, the whole nine yards. Haven't touched one in years though. Worried about the learning curve.

Learning curve isn't bad. Especially if you already have the joystick, etc. I was completely new to flight sims but had my eye on this game for a while, so as soon as I finished building my computer I bought it along with a joystick setup and trackIR head tracking thingy (which is awesome). Within a few hours I felt like I had the basics down. Just spend some time going through some of the training exercises before starting proper. Especially the docking and travel ones.

Making money is slow at first. As in real life you kind of need money to make money. But after a few days it starts to add up.

this, this, and more this

I'm currently saving up for a new engine and lasers... need better shields as well, I'm so worried about losing my first real ship and not having enough to pay for insurance 10 times

I finally saved up enough to kit out my cobra for major exploration. Got the $1.5M advanced discovery scanner, up the frame shift drive to increase my jump range, etc. When all was said and done my $300,000 cobra is now worth over $3 Million lol.

I did this because I've decided to make the trip to the galactic core to visit Sagittarius A* (the supermassive black hole). I've quickly found out that this will be a LONG trip. I can only play a few hours a night after work and some on weekends so I'm fully expecting this to take me a few weeks (or months) to make it there and back. Should come back rich after selling all my data though.

You are making my mining operation seem boring...

My cobra is fit to the gills with mining equip. May trade in the mining stuff for some exploration stuff. for a bit. But I had just found a good spot to mine Titanium and other good stuff...

I've done the mining too. Thats how i initially built up my bank account lol. If you find the good shite in a system with "pristine reserves" you can make bank. Both mining and exploration can be a bit dull for some but thats why i play this game. To chill out, drink a beer and fly a spaceship.

Exactly! I have this and League, when I go to my man cave to game, I say "Do I want to sit back with a beer and do stuff, or do I want to compete against people in an intense battle of wits!?" - depending on my answer, I play one of the two. It's pretty awesome
