quote:

Jackson added that Stafford gets away with being lazy because the team doesn’t demand otherwise. According to Jackson, the franchise quarterback should be leading by example, but in Detroit it was Suh and Calvin Johnson who did that.

“You see clips of Peyton Manning, however limited they are, you see him drilling his pocket presence, his footwork and different things like that,” Jackson said. “The time period I was out there [in Detroit], I didn’t see any consistent drills like that on a daily basis where he’s working on the drops and evading the rush and different things like that. . . . In my opinion, when you’re making that kind of money and you’re the face of the franchise, you put in work. And I don’t think that I was the only one to question that. When you see a guy like Calvin and Ndamukong working hard on a daily basis, doing extra stuff, and you don’t really see that from the quarterback, it’s like how can you be mad with the results? Because it’s not a high demand they’re placing on him for improvement.”

i like stafford, but this is what separates good... from greats. They work to perfect their craft and not just "get by" with raw talent. They want to be the absolute best at what they do. Some have it, some dont

The Lions will pay him whatever he wants too when his contract runs up or another team will.

He's actually a fairly nice guy. I've talked with him and his family a few times in Highland Park. On the upside - They don't strike me as ever having been "pushy sports parents" (likely bc they were already set financially)... but downside - That may have played into his motivation level.

What a load of BS...I have never heard anything about Matthew Stafford being something other than committed and a great locker room presence/leader.

Stafford has been playing at a very high level and this guy is talking about practice?

I can't speak to the quote in question, but it's not a huge secret that he was, let's say 'less than highly motivated', in Athens.

I'll never forget the Thursday before the bama game in 08 and him and knowshon were getting blackout drunk at Arch bar. That really hurt my image I had of him at the time.

What makes your "sources" any more reliable than an ex-Lion?

Stafford has been ripped in the media for years from every possible angle...from his durability, to his footwork, to whether or not he can lead a team to the Super Bowl. I have never once seen anyone even remotely question his leadership, his work ethic, or his preparation.

You play with enough guys...someone is going to dislike you, all they need is a platform.

Kinda fitting considering how that weekend went. I flew down for that game and remember this as well.

Stafford comes off as a huge bro. But thats one of the things I like about him. Must be something in the water at UGA. Because he's definitely not the first and won't be the last.
