He's a much better coach than Monty, we'd probably just have to deal with a lot of these injuries.
We already do though...
Exactly. Give me Thibs over Monty every time.

I'm saying if given those two options, I'd take the latter. But it's not my choice anyway so IDGAF

Rose played 8800 minutes his first 3 seasons plus 1200 playoff minutes. If you BREF MP first 3 years regular season, LeBron, Rose, Durant are top 30 and the only "modern" NBA (depending on how you feel about Elton Brand) guys in that group. Not a great sign that Durant and Rose are breaking down right now. LeBron is a freak and even he took a couple of weeks off.
Longer postseason is adding entire seasons to careers. Guys can't rest on defense the way they could in previous eras. Too much demanded of them. Plus, these are 19 yos, not fully grown men. They can play and play very well at this level, but the regular season is grueling.
Thibs is without question a far, far superior coach to Monty. If they could get him to agree to minutes restrictions, I'm all about it. If not, I don't know if I pull the trigger. I want to do everything to keep Davis healthy for the next decade and deep playoff runs, not just extra regular season wins.

Would thibs put up with ryno and tyreke's lack of defense? Tyreke is to a lesser extent cause he's worked magic with some guards these days.
I don't think they fit what he wants
ETA: this is funny timing with what that bucks writer tweeted last night.

Pau 34.6
Noah 30.9
Gibson 28.1
Mirotic 18.4
I'm really surprised Pau is the minutes leader there
I think the Pau thing is an injury deal. Noah and Gibson have been banged up, Mirotic only a rookie.

Some people actually think Monty is better that Tommy Tib?
Is that why The Bulls almost, always destroy us when we play them.

flannery/ziller on monty:
quote:
ZILLER: I agree with you on Thibs. It's a bit like Let Westbrook Be Westbrook: you can't have the good without the bad. His dedication to grinding every single moment (plus all that talent, who all bought in) is what got them on top of the East in 2011 and 2012. Monty has been pounded repeatedly for his tactics, but something's working, because the Pelicans won't die despite a bunch of injuries. He's certainly not perfect, but he deserves a lot more credit than most are willing to give. You went down to witness the team for a while. Does he seem to have a serious impact on the Pelicans' drive? He said in your big piece that he's felt a need to take some of the "veteran leader" burden off Anthony Davis. That surely has real value, right? FLANNERY: I think it does, but more importantly, Monty Williams and Anthony Davis think it does. Here's an example: Monty kept AD out of the lineup the first night I was there for a game against the Clippers even though Davis wanted to play. They had no business winning that game, but they did anyway. That's a testament to two things: One, Monty's not going to put his star player in jeopardy for a short-term benefit; and two, somehow, someway they keep winning games they should lose. Now, the flipside is they've lost a lot of games they should win, so again, no one knows anything.
quote:
There aren't a lot of coaches who would approach it this way and I think that's a good thing for AD long-term. ZILLER: It totally is. And that sort of positive impact is lost on the 99 percent of basketball fans who aren't in the locker room. We think we see Monty's tactical failings -- even though most of those of likely more than meets the eye; remember, we know nothing -- and so we write him off. But behind the veil he's doing things to infuse his team with faith, loyalty and trust. All of that has value in the long term ... if he's allowed to stick around for the long run.

I still want to upgrade Monty, but I do think he has the potential to be our Scott Brooks. While that's far from the best case scenario, if KD leaves OKC it will be because of roster management/ownership cheapness, not Brooks' being a mediocre coach. Coaching is the quickest part of the equation to change. The only reason we need to be in a hurry to replace Monty is in the case of limited time opportunities, like maybe you think Thibs is the guy and he's going to be available. If we're on shaky ground with AD in 4 years it won't be because Monty got to coach the last year of his current contract it will be because the roster isn't good enough or management hasn't shown AD they are committed to winning.

The injury story is bullshite
Posted on 3/10/15 at 2:48 pm to TigerinATL
Doesn't Chicago have issues with their medical staff that could contribute to the players' problems?
I know that Deng claimed that the Bulls' trainers tried to downplay his injuries to get him back on the court at one point.
