Did anybody realize that Michael Barash is Texas A&M's starting catcher?

Looks like he is doing alright for himself, too. Good to see he found a home.

Don't let the Aggies know he'd still be a backup here....

He couldn't beat out Chinea, who now has been beat out by Pap.

He very well may have passed chinea at catcher had he stayed.

Probably so, but then you're still third in the pecking order.

Well who knows if pap even comes. It's all speculation but I don't think it's far fetched that he'd be 2nd string behind scivicque if he had stayed.

I mean, that's a hell of a conjecture at this point. The fact that Tyler Moore moved back to catcher was pretty telling that his future lied elsewhere.

His best bet was to probably not enroll early.

He was just really young and not ready. His ceiling was pretty high to develop. He was already defensively better than chinea but who isn't.

Mainieri was very high on him and I'm pretty sure he didn't want him to leave.

Well, apparently Mainieri was the one who told him that he was far behind Scivicque, Moore and Chinea.

We'll see what the average looks like when aTm plays some real competition coming up.

That being said, it wouldnt the first player CPM ran off that ended up being pretty good, See: Christian Trent

ETA: I am not saying Mainieri is bad, just showing every coach does make some mistakes.

I really don't know if it was a mistake though. Is he talented? sure, but he would at best be competing with Pap for the Sunday catcher job with LSU right now.

Maybe he just couldn't afford 3/4 catchers and told Barash to look elsewhere knowing full well he had plenty of potential.

College baseball coaches have to make those kind of decisions every season due to the roster and scholarship limits

Was he the catcher from Florida who skipped his senior season and enrolled early to play at lsu?

As long as he's decent behind the plate and continues to hit like this he'd be a mile ahead of Paperiski who looks like he definitely needs time.

I think he'd still be behind Paps. While Papierski's batting average sucks (.176) his on base percentage is a respectable .391, same as Barash.
