And "cap casualty" is being used very loosely.

Tomorrow is going to be a super busy day. They still have to trim about 11 mil before Tuesday.

Looking like we may not have either of our starting ILBs next season. The good news is that it's probably the second easiest position to transition from college to the NFL behind RB. The bad news is that this is a very meh ILB draft class and an AWFUL FA class. None are worth a first round pick. McKinney (doesn't look like a coverage guy, but a great Lofton replacement in the run game + can get after the QB a bit), Shaq Thompson (undersized, good in coverage but could be a S in the NFL) and Perryman (more well rounded) could be options in the second.

David Hawthorne: 6.01mil cap hit
2.0mil base salary
1.51mil prorated bonus
2.5mil roster bonus

3.02mil dead space
2.99mil savings

Cutting him now saves us 5.51mil next year. Cutting him next year saves 4.0mil

I think we keep Lofton and sign either Weatherspoon or Mason Foster

So that still leaves us having to free up over 7mil.

Using OTC's calculator (I've been doing way too much math lately to do this myself), Jahri + Lofton + Hawthorne = $13.25m. Grubbs as a pre June 1 cut only saves us $500k, so I don't think that we can get him to take a paycut (not that we'll dump both guards).

I must be using OTC's calculator incorrectly then.

ETA: Nevermind, just saw the non-guaranteed roster bonus.

Don't worry about the money. Loomis always had a plan. The important part is who stays and who goes and losing both Lofton and Hawthorne is great news. We need new blood and some speed guys.

OTC says we're 16.4mil over. Things I can already assume as locked to do:
1. Graham restructure saves 4.8mil
2. Colston and Bunkley saves 6.0mil (all signs point to 3/each)
3. Hawthorne cut saves 2.99mil
2.61mil over

Now things we still might be able to do:
Trade Lofton - 4.25mil
Trade Galette - 11.75mil
Cut Evans - 6.0mil (pay cut I'd imagine would be 5.0mil savings)
Cut Grubbs - 3.6mil (pay cut I'd imagine would be 3.0mil savings)
Cut Bush - 1.95mil
Cut White - 1.542mil
All of that would put us 26.482mil under the cap.

I imagine it'd go more like this though:
Restructure Galette (+10.4mil)
Cut Lofton (+4.25mil)
Cut Evans (+6.0mil)
Cut White (+1.542mil)

That'd put us at 19.582mil under

Oh I'm not worried about the money, I'm just curious to see how they do it. Who stays....who goes.... who takes a pay cut... So on and so forth

How are you getting only half a mil on Grubbs? He saves $3.6m as a normal cut.

How are you getting $4.8m on Jimmy? Should be $5m ÷ 3 years = $1.67 and we save on two of those years for about $3.3m.

Yeah I doubt we cut both guards. We may not cut either. They both might take a pay cut.

If we did that and added Stefen Wisenawski (sp?) then we would be in great shape
