You are down 1 pt, have a timeout in your pocket and you try to throw the ball all the way across the court. Why not just try to draw a play up to get the ball to half court and call the quick timeout so you can in bound at halfcourt and get a final shot? fricking dumb

Eta: I see teams frick this up all the time in college basketball. Its one thing I like about the NBA is the advancement of the basketball past halfcourt at the ends of games after timeouts.

I've never understood the NBA rule of advancing it following a timeout late in the game.

Its for added excitement/drama, something that College Basketball needs more of, as it has been under heavy scrutiny lately

Because it's a tough pass either way, and if you try to get another timeout, you're relying on generally incompetent college basketball officials to grant you a timeout in a timely manner

i guess, but there was almost 3 seconda left. Plenty of time to get a screen set and a player break free.

The thing with Virginia tonight was it was just a poorly thrown pass. The intended receiver had broke open.

Your odds aren't good either way. If you've practiced a 3/4 court pass play and feel ok about it, you're better off going with that.

College Basketball would be better with the advancement rule in the last minute or 2 minutes of the game

That rule is dumb. It's just not legitimate at all from a game integrity standpoint. You have to bring the ball up the court.

I would prefer they just inbound the ball 1/4 up the floor, couple of dribbles for however long you have left, and throw it up.

This is actually one of the things NCAA basketball has right. You should actually have to earn the points, and on the opposite side, there would be no Christian Laettners and Bryce Drews.

Now if they could only figure out how to keep the last 90 seconds of an NCAA tournament game from lasting 27 minutes........

I don't want stuff just for "added excitement" that doesn't make real game sense to do. Why should a team that's trailing get added help. Just doesn't make sense to me.

To me it's like late in a football game of a team is receiving a kickoff and its a touchback and if they use a timeout they get the ball at midfield instead of the 25.

Just stupid to me.

I get that it adds excitement. I just don't see why a timeout should advance you that far up the court.
