im saying the realism has nothing to do with it.

you know that the models in the game are people, you know that the red dots are blood, you know that theyre fricking when the car shakes, you know that people are getting thrown in the grinder when you drop them at the dog food factory for marty chonks.

obviously, it's OP's kid and he can choose what he allows. im just giving my thoughts.

I agree with everything you said in this thread.

But I wouldn't buy it for you kid until 8th grade at minimum.

Now he wants to save his allowance or do some chores and figure out a way of buy or rent the thing himself, go ahead

if it was my kid, id probably wait till he was 11. guys/gals are fingering/getting fingered at that point, so the nudity isnt a big deal

Dude the game is pretty rough. My brother won't even let his kids play it and they are 14,13,10 years old.
I have played an it's definitely not for kids

I wouldn't let him play it.

I think i was 10 or 11 when I played GTA 3 at my best friend's house and the only reason it was over there was because his older brother was 16 or 17.

Technically we weren't allowed to play it but his brother was cools and their bonus/game room was upstairs and his parents never went up there/

Ahhh the good ole days

Why do you have to say male child. If he was a female it would be out of the question ? Sexist

I couldn't imagine letting anyone under 17 playing this game. Trevor sometimes made me feel uncomfortable and I'm 36.

Gonna be a bunch of shitty fricking parents in this thread. There's a huge difference between "knowing" about things and doing a fricking mission where you are torturing a person to death.

Nudity and hookers and language aren't even the reasons to me. Like the Witcher is one thing, GTA is a whole different level.

I'm gonna change my answer.

GTA 3, vice city, and San Andreas I'd let me 10/11 year old play.

GTA ' is a whole different level of twisted, so I'm gonna a have to say banned from the house till 15/16

Whoever said wait till they can pay for it themselves was correct. Anyone who buys this for their kid is an idiot parent.

My parents wouldn't let me play M rated games until I was in 10th grade. I had to sneak around to finish Metal Gear Soild and Parasite Eve back in the day. Good times.

My 13 year old was allowed to play T games when he was ~10, depending on the actual content. He still isn't allowed to play anything rated M

That M rating is pretty wide open IMO. MGS M is way different than GTAV M. Obviously time has changed things but damn. Even Manhunt didn't seem that bad.

I believe that his friends do but I would hold him off probably. You have to know your kid though. I watched terminator when I was about 7 and it didn't affect me but some kids aren't ready for that.

I would ask what movies he watches now? It has violence, drugs, sex, language, etc... If that's and issue for you then don't let him.

Not reading the rest of the thread (I can imagine how it's played out so far), but I agree with this. If the content is your concern, watch some videos of the gameplay and compare it to what your kid has been exposed to, understands, and how much of it does or does not seem to influence him. If fear of judgment is your concern, no point in even asking about it. Not to mention, the GTA series has been the go-to "Exhibit A" of anti-video game activists for a very long time.

Can't tell you whether my kids will be playing games like that at 8 years old because they're still very young. They may not like video games at all. At this point though, it scares me that my 3-year-old daughter is starting to learn the gist of what death means.

I don't care how mature you think your 12 year old is, they shouldn't even be put in the situation to have make some of the choices you have to make in games like this. I've been playing video games most of my life and today's games are on a whole other planet from the games I grew up with. GTA and games with similar content are not intended for kids. They're intended for adults. Would you let your 9, 10, 11 year old go to a strip club and be a meth dealer in real life? These games aren't fantasy games. There're extremely life like and that's part of the draw to them. I don't want to think about the 9 years olds out there sitting around the lunch table discussing how they picked which way to torture someone.

I had my 1st graders write about their favorite thing and like 3 of the boys said GTAV. Just seems like way too young to even consider buying a kid this game, although they probably played it with a cousin or something
