fricking huge.

Martin was a BEAST today with 27pts and 8 rebs and had that HUGE block for us.

Josh Gray was the playmaking PG we have lacked at times this year and kept us in the game along with Martin. He carved up Arkys pressure.

Patterson was AWESOME in the 1st half for us and nailed a handful of big 3s. Including a huge 3 down the stretch.

Bench actually came through and have us quality minutes.

TQ struggled and was 1/6, but that 1 was a huge 3 in the final seconds of the game.

And Hornsby struggled too, but drilled the game winner that was the shot of the year for us.

fricking awesome. This was huge and we get style points for winning @ #18 Arky, without our 2nd best player in Mickey.

We really came together and beat a good team and overcame some horrible calls by the refs.

Agreed... Malone got burned in a matter of 2 steps. But Martin played great help side D and denied an easy lay up.

Hopefully soon...

He was dressed out so maybe he's close to being ready to go.

It's amazing that LSU was w/o Mickey, Portis (and Ark) had what seemed like 40 ORBs, every blocking/charge/no-call went in Ark's favor - and LSU wins!

Huge win, lots of players stepped up. Gray with his best performance in ages, hell Epps had 5 points.

I know people weren't happy with our rebounding, especiallly with Arky getting so many offensive rebs. And it annoyed me as well.

But we were only out-rebounded by 4. And considering we were missing the guy who is tied 1st in SEC in rebs with 9.9 in Jordan Mickey... I'll take that -4 in rebs.

Agreed ....

And you add in the fact that Hornsby and TQ struggled for most of the game, that win is even more impressive.

I mean the only starters that played well most of the game was Martin and Patterson. And Patterson was quiet in the 2nd half.

And still won.

Yep.

Hornsby had that horrible series of 2 missed FTs then a turnover inbounding back-to-back. Glad he nailed the buzzer beater, dude never gives up.

The entire team stepped up today, even with whatever mistakes. Malone gave solid minutes and didn't turn the ball over every time he touched the ball - and he touched it a lot today.

Yep....

And after those 2 missed FTs and then turnover, what did Hornsby do? He busted his arse down the court and caught up with the Arky ball handler and knocked it out of bounds from behind, spoiling tbeir transition O.

Before the season started I never thought I would say this, but Hornsby is fricking awesome and is a clear fan favorite. He's as important to this team as anyone not named Martin is. Including Mickey. His attitude and never quit attitude is admirable and contagious.

Hornsby is the fricking man. Great find by CJJ.

And thinking towards next year...

A lot of people think we won't be returning much of Martin and Mickey go pro... And I thought the same earlier as well. But not anymore.

TQ, Hornsby, Patterson, and if Gray continues to show improvement and play like he did today... And add Simmons and Blakeney. Really like what we would return even if we lose Martin and Mickey. Getting 1 back would be that much sweeter.

quote:

TQ, Hornsby, Patterson, and if Gray
I said earlier in the season that if those 4 had one more year under their belt, the team would be much more consistent. All 4 are either first year in program or in TQ's case, made a huge turnaround from FR to SOPH.

Guard play in CBB can never be understated. With those 4 and a true #2 SG coming in next year, LSU is looking good in that department.

Completely agree.

I think everyone, me included, has been surprised at how good Hornsby is and how much he means to this team. I didn't see it coming before the season started.

I'm also impressed with how calm Patterson is as a true freshman. Never looks rattled.

And TQs improvement speaks for itself. And I also think it shows the kind of coach CJJ is. TQ was horrible his freshman year to the point that people wondered why we offered him. I wasn't a hater of TQ, I loved his size / length and his D and versatility last year but he was horrible on O. Put in the work with our staff and CJJ and is a completely different player this year.

We're definitely on the same page.

I'm the first to admit that I was overly critical of TQ last year. Seems foolish of me now looking at how much improvement he has made.

Hornsby can't get enough praise IMO. Even against UT when everyone else decided it was a day-off, Hornsby came to play his arse off.

Patterson is very impressive as a true Freshman. CJJ putting him in starting lineup and Gray off bench was the move that set this all off. Gray has been giving consistent minutes since then, but today he took over at PG. If he can find that consistency, LSU just got a whole lot better.

Agree 100%

And a lot of people were critical of TQ last season. And most of it was true. I just liked his size and length and D and thougt he had potential to be a Garrett Temple type of player, primarily a defender and can give you some assists and rebs and maybe a few buckets here and there. But nobody thought he would be this improved, especially on the offensive end. And he's still inconsistent on offense, but when he's right he's nearly unstoppable due to the size advantage he has on other guards. And even though he's a much improved shooter, I do get annoyed when he shoots 3s. He's a slasher and could be constantly attacking. But when he is making those 3s, I feel like a jackass

And obviously I agree about Hornsby. He's the fricking man.

And completely agree about Patterson and Gray. If Patterson can consistently hit the open 3, and if Gray can play as fast and under control as he did today, look out. Gray has some elite passes today. A lot of no look, wrap around passes that ended with an easy bucket. And he was great at driving to the lane and kicking out to the open player for 3.

And this W was huge for our mindset and attotude. Great to go into postseason play oth confidence
