I just found out that I will spend September in New Orleans for work. Long story as to why and whatnot, won't get into it.

I am a Big Ten guy (Go Northwestern!) but I would love to finally see a SEC game and I have been a LSU fan for 40 years since the days before cable tv when I would listen to LSU games on my radio.

Three questions.

1. How to get tickets? Day of game from some dude peddling on the street (I have gotten great tickets to games and concets like that, not knocking it) or a better way.

2. Should I "move" to Baton Rouge the night before the game or is it driveable?

3. Any pregame thing I must see. Please realize I am allergic (extremely) to all seafood so we can skip any seafood stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Go to the Auburn game. I would just drive over that morning unless driving later is a concern.

You might die from the vapors/particles in the air.

All answers depend on whether you choose McNeese or Auburn games, but here are some thoughts . . .

1. Even though the McNeese game is the opener, tickets should be affordable and plentiful. Try the ticket exchange tab on this site or even stubhub. There may even be tickets available around campus. But if you choose Auburn, don't count on anyone selling tickets on campus. You will have to pay and make sure to get the tickets in advance.

2. I wouldn't want to drive back to New Orleans after a game, but you might not mind it. If you want to stay in Baton Rouge, make your reservation yesterday. The close places are most likely already booked, especially for Auburn game.

3. Get there early enough to drive by the sorority houses on the lake, then park and tour the tailgating. People are friendly. You will find some non-seafood based jambalaya somewhere. If you there for the Auburn game, the Game Day crew may be set up on the parade grounds, so stop by with a poster and try to get on TV. The campus is beautiful, so walk the parade ground, by the clock tower, through the quad, and down the hill to Mike's cage. Get some pictures of Mike and his awesome set up. Find out when the band will come down the hill and get there early for a primo spot up front.

Have a good time.

I call bullshite to not finding tickets on campus. I have NEVER had a ticket I couldn't find on gameday. Just walk around and be patient- you will find them for sale.

DO NOT go to one of the cupcake games...just not worth it at all. Go to the Auburn game and wait as long as you can leading up til kickoff. You will be able to get tickets at face value.

Most hotels require a 2 nite stay during football season, so you might want to drive over that morning. And for a 7 pm game..time not set yet...getting there for 10:00 a.m. could be considered late possibly for the Auburn game. Closer it gets to game time, check back here for easiest route to the stadium and parking. As for tickets, getting them outside the stadium is not really that hard, but I would want to have mine in hand already, that being how I am. StubHub is a good reliable source but there is a good ticket exchange here, too. As for food, you will find literally every kind of food there is, though obviously seafood will be everywhere too. Wear something that obviously shows you are from out of town & you will get all you can eat & drink free all day long.

-Click on: 'Ticket Exchange' pages on:
www.lsusports.net
www.tigerrant.com
www.dandydon.com
- In August, call the LSU Athletic Ticket office to see if there are any single game tickets available for September games. (I'm sure there will be :)
- If you know someone who could purcahse some FOR YOU in mid to late August in line when single-game tickets go on sale, you could do that to.
- I believe you can even purchase tickets on-line on the lsusorts.net web site in August.
- Put a finger up in the air at the top of "Victory Hill" in between the Journalism Bldg and the Cox Academic Center on Game-Day morning.
- Network wherever you will be staying the night before.

2. Should I "move" to Baton Rouge the night before the game or is it driveable?

-It's driveable from New Orleans or wherever (about 75 min.), BUT, and I can't stress this enough, GET TO CAMPUS EARLY. As early as possible 7 or 8 am is not too early.
- I believe some Baton Rouge hotels have shuttles to the stadium.
- Both Baton Rouge and New Orleans have great night life and casinos, restaurants, bars, etc.
Of course New Orleans has a more extensive selection :)

3. Any pregame thing I must see. Please realize I am allergic (extremely) to all seafood so we can skip any seafood stuff.
Thanks in advance.

- Mike's Habitat at the NW end of Death Valley next to the Maravich Assembly Center and Gift Shop.
- LSU Union, Quad, Parade Grounds, etc.
- Players and Coaches Walk down Victory Hill.
- Mike's mobile cage ride (if he goes :)
- TGBFTL (The Goooolden Band From Tigerland) marching down Victory Hill, stopping to play "Hold That Tiger" and fight songs.
- Of course the tailgating, food and drink.
EVERYWHERE. Just wear an LSU cap and NW shirt (or vice versa) and you can go just about anywhere and be offered food and drink.
- DO NOT get to your seat late. Get in Tiger Stadium EARLY to watch the LSU Pregame - by FAAAAAR the best Pregame in the USA...

EDIT:

Non-seafood dishes at LSU Tailgates:
BBQ or roast brisket
Cochon de lait (Cajun roast pork loin)
Chicken and sausage jambalaya
Chicken and sausage gumbo
Tasso, Andouille, Deer Sausage
Boudin (Cajun dirty rice in casing)
Rabbit sauce piquante
Tortilla roll-ups, tamales
Mac 'n cheese, twice-baked potatoes
Bread pudding with rum sauce
etc.

I agree you should go to the Auburn game to get the true Tiger stadium experience.

I would buy tickets beforehand on one of the exchange sites. Even though you might have to pay a little more, I would want to spend my day relaxing enjoying the atmosphere, without the worry of trying to find decent tickets.

It is certainly driveable, but like others have said, give yourself plenty of time, and if you're like me, prepare to be stressed out by:
the traffic
finding a place to park
and the traffic.

We went to the Kentucky game last year (first time from out of town) and stayed downtown.
One option is a shuttle that runs from the Hotel Indigo (right across from the Hilton) - corner of Lafayette and Convention. I think the ticket was 7 bucks or something (per person) and they dropped us off across the street from the stadium. They were waiting after the game with a fleet to droppoff at several stops downtown. The ride back was by far the quickest I've ever gotten away from campus after a game. The whole thing took a ton of stress out of the sitiuation.

I had horendous timing and jacked my knee up badly the night before we drove down to BR. I was hobbling around like I was in 'Nam. I was honestly thinking about scrubbing the whole game day operation but this bus option took A LOT of walking out of the picture and made it doable.
Obviously, you'll want to do more than "point A to point B" if you're looking for the whole experience.

How to get tickets?

Getting them on campus is probably your best option if money is a concern. Like most others have expressed, I've yet to be at ANY game where there weren't plenty of tickets to be bought day of. Waiting until gametime or shortly after kickoff can be stressful but you'll get them at face value (I've even managed to have some very nice folks unload some free SEC tickets on me slightly after kickoff once).
My girlfriend got our Kentucky tickets (as a surprise) from stubhub. It was nice not to have to worry about it day of. I never asked, but I'm assuming she got thoroughly raped.
But that's how we roll, rapings get swept under the rug in exchange for game days.

I buy my tickets this way often even for big games. Rarely paid more than face value and often less. Only game I have seen in quite some time that there were no tickets available on the street was the Bama game last season.

Ticket hawks hang around Mike the Tiger's home on the north end of Tiger Stadium. Make sure you have a copy of the stadium seating so you know what they are peddling.

It is drivable but you need a plan - mainly for parking. You will need to be at LSU ready to park at least 4 hrs before kickoff and sooner than that is better if game is a biggie. Consult locals you will be working with for specifics on parking - too big a subject to cover here.

I am so sorry! explains the BigTen guy thing!!!

almost forgot... no matter what others tell you get your arse to your seat about 30 min before KO. The last 15 min countdown to KO is reveled in the CFB world as on of the best pregames to get you in the mood for some rockem sockem football!

This.

Tickets are plentiful outside Tiger Stadium UNDER FACE for every game except for the Alabama game every other year. There are not as many for the BIG SEC games, but still not hard to find at all. We normally only pay $5-10.00 for most games. $20.00 for Ole Miss and $50.00 for Bama last season. All good seats in the now mid-level 400 South Endzone sections and purchased outside the Southeast side of the stadium.........
