Wow.

Did I miss something over the last few years. I mean Morris Claiborne, pat Peterson, Reid, Mathieu.

These guys did it all but I rarely heard or seen anything out of Collins. I am happy for Collins but is this the quietiest(is this a word) tiger ever to be taken in the first round?

What is shows is the true wealth of talent LSU has at the DB position. Everyone knew Collins had the measurabilities to be great, it just took him more years than the others you mentioned to truly develop.

He definitely played well last season. He hustle his arse off to prevent a couple of touchdowns. I was amazed at his determination and speed to hawk those guys who broke off for big plays. He has great size and he can be molded into a great corner. He is a something between a project and potentially solid corner similar to Tharold Simon aka King of Eunice.

Only shows you how great Robinson was because Jalen got benched 2 times for the younger corner. He never complained or anything and played Cooper better than anyone in the country. Collins is legit as they get on the board at corner plus the DBU brand is real.

Why does our fan base keep trying to put our own players down.

We got a guy here getting a favorable draft stock analysis and is being liked by pro teams and all we can do is sit here and say "ohh wow I thought he sucked. These NFL guys are idiots!"

Like damn. Just be happy for the kid.

Don't think my post was negative?

Just saying a guy usually taken in the first round has a nice resume or video highlights to back it up. The former LSU players I mentioned earlier in my post did. Collins flew below the radar at LSU and I am happy for him but I do think as mentioned in this that the talent at LSU especially in the secondary is insane.

All you have to do is to listen to Mayock and the others during the combine. This is one of the worst DB classes to come out in a long time. Trae Waynes is the clear #1 and everyone else is way down the ladder. Now because the NFL is a passing league now it will cause teams to reach on DB's that normally would not have gone that high. Collins is a beneficiary of this.

I am happy for him that everything is working out for him and he did have some bright spots while he was here. But also like Dion Sanders was saying that he needs to get down to LSU to see what is going on because Collins was not even the best corner on our roster.

Who started a few games for the best defense in the league.

I said it in the last thread, its crazy how we call ourselves DBU and are surprised that one of our starting CBs this year is a potential first rounder. The kid always had talent, contributed every year and improved his game to the point where he is considered one of the best prospects in his class.

I think this mindset is an indictment of the lsu fan base, and how little football they watch outside of their own games. I bet 9/10 could not tell you the name of a starting DB outside of the SEC, yet those same 9 will tell you they "just don't see it" with jalen.

Eta: beyond the first sentence, my post is directed at the op.

This is all hyperbole on your part. The OP wasn't bashing the kid or being negative. Calm down.

He is simply a player whose game translates better to the NFL. He never really locked down a starting spot, but he showed flashes of greatness. Flashes can be more important in the draft than consistency.

That's usually a good thing for a CB.

Alright Oceanman, I can't name a starting corner outside of the SEC. I can tell you that Collins is not first round material. I can't say he won't be taken in the first round, because NFL GMs sometimes do stupid things. Finally, I can tell you that if a team takes Collins in the first round they will regret it. I expect Collins to start in the NFL if he gets on the right team, but he won't be in the top half of NFL starters.

And to the douchebag who criticised posters for questioning Collins being worth a first round selection, WTF are we supposed to talk about? It's a GD message board! No one is saying he should be kicked off campus or arrested.

I thought the same thing when I saw the mock drafts. I don't think his play on the field is comparable to LSU's other first round DBs. His measurables are prototypical as far as size and athleticism goes. I just don't it was every all put together on the field. Hopefully he'll go to a team where he can get coached up and put all his talent together

What Sanders said was that scouts(NFL) needed to get down to LSU because they're being developed!!
