It's like history repeating itself! Even had some Orgeron references mixed in!

funny how his defenses were ranked in the 50's in 3/5 of the years that that poster pointed out. Our clock-chewing offense, Raymond, orgeron, and the plethora of talent we have compiled is going to make Steele look just fine even if he isn't elite. I don't think it was a home run hire or anything but I'm a lot more optimistic about Steele than most posters on here, we'll be fine on D next year

Chavis was a good defensive coordinator and I think Steele will be a good one too.

When exactly did I say that I didn't think he was a good coordinator? He was good but wasn't even close to irreplaceable like some people on here want to believe

I don't think Steele was a great hire but if it's a disaster it could be the end of Miles. I don't think he would risk it if he didn't have faith in him.

What's changed that made it seem like a good hire? The only thing that made people feel better about it was getting Orgeron. I still think he's a terrible hire

that's the point. Nobody was jumping through hoops when Chavis was hired around here. He re-established himself with the talent LSU had

I don't understand the Steele hire at all except from a recruiting standpoint. Too many big names should have been lining up to come here. Fishy. Whatever. If it works out, yay us. If it doesn't, it'll be the end of Les Miles.

Wow! this a great find. I had no idea how pessimistic people were about Chavis when he was first hired. It was before I was on the rant I wonder why he was so much more successful here than at Tennessee. Was it all the talent?

Good players can mask deficiencies. I liked Chavis as our DC. He's a good DC, but you're going to see him struggle this year at A&M. He doesn't have the players he wants or the offensive TOP that will accommodate his defense. Another good example is Ole Miss. Two years ago they ran HUNH and their defense suffered. This past year, they slowed it down and prospered. Look at Auburn. Another example.

The one thing I really like from Coach Steele was his interview about scheme saying that he realized we were a 4-3 based team in the past, and we would look all different formations to combat different offenses. That's real coaching right there.

Anyone would almost be better than Chavis. If Steele does not make idiotic calls, like, playing not to loose- he should be fine.

You realize we completely adjusted our 2 minute defense after the 2012 Bama loss?

We pressed the LOS and blitzed in those situations after that game. So I really don't think it is fare to say that the D played not to lose after that game.

Also, Chavis was a great coordinator who brought stability to that side of the ball after the duo experiment failed. He led some of the best defenses in LSU history. He may have had his faults, but we were a pretty consistently good defense despite constant attrition to the NFL.

No doubt. Hell, look at Saban's defense when he got to LSU. It struggled

I think Steele is just as good as Chavis, The difference is Steele has Coach "O" to compliment his Defense.
