Recruiting is 90% of winning at a high level in basketball these days. I give JJ a A in this but a D in actually coaching these players up and a D in motivating his star players.

I think if we make the semifinal round of the SECT, we are dancing.
West regional, 11th seed.

Please explain how you know more than pretty much every projected bracket.

The golden era of LSU basketball was 1978-1981 when the Tigers were 57-15 in the SEC. The four preceding years they were 25-47.
The next best period was 19889-1992 when they were 48-22. The previous four years they were 38-34.
No.

What do you disagree with? Maybe the Bob Petit/ Joe Dean era , but what other period is in the same discussion?

When you factor in the number of schools that get into the NCAA tournament each year and a down SEC, JJ shouldn't need 3+ years to make the tournament.
how many senior stars on the team now?
How many years have these guys played together?
There are only 6 good players on the team and that's generous.
Q-man has had some bad games and a triple double.
U of K has 9 good players. 10th one is injured.

thats wrong to say Quarterman has played bad except his one triple double.
the dude has been our main creater at the guard spot BY FAR on a pretty good team. The dude is tied with hornsby as far as the 3/4 best player on the team.
he is the best guard defender, grabs boards, and leads in steals.

his first 3-4 seasons at UNT really kill his career record. Once he got the ball rolling, his winning percentage was much higher. He honestly did a pretty awesome job considering UNT only had one NCAA tournament appearance ever before he arrived
Not really.
His first three years at UNT he was:
8-7
2-13
8-8
After that he only finished more than 2 games over .500 in conf play twice. He never won an out-right conference title and only won 1 division title in 11 years. Yes, he did a decent job improving the UNT program, but it's not like they became a dominant force in the Sun Belt.
The bottom line is that he would have never been considered for the LSU job but for the fact that he played and coached under Dale Brown. I don't recall many other SEC and/or Big 12 teams ever really beating down Jones' door. This is the ultimate "it's not what you know but who you know hire"
I really, really want him to succeed at LSU. However, right now you can't deny that his on-court results are trending similar to his time at UNT

How do you feel being that 10-8 is only 1 game better than when LSU started a tuba player?
Not very good, but honestly Tuba played about 10 minutes a game, probably less than that in SEC play. I'm not certain Malone is any better of a player and he plays almost that much.
We had some good players on that team. Carmouche was a senior transfer starter from a successful tournament team, JOB3 was a 4/5 star sophomore, Coleman was a rock steady player and we had personnel that could press effectively, something we don't have now.
That was definitely CJJ's best coaching job of the 3 we have on record here, but I don't think it was the miracle some try to make it out to be. In fact, I think 9-9 with that team in the conference as it existed then was about right where we should have been.
It was not last year and IMHO 10-8 is not this year. But I said the other day and I'll say again...would not be a bit surprised if we win Saturday.

OMG, we have a good shot at making the tourny for the first time since 2009 :gasp: and a the best playing in the country coming in for next season. CJJ has done a good job of turning around the LSU bball program. When he was hired the smart ppl were saying it was going to 4-5 seasons to get LSU to a consistent SEC championship/final four contender. Have yall forgotten that the LSU cabinet were emptier than a Soviet grocery store in the 80's? It takes time to rebuild and to add depth which is what has killed us more thant he bonehead coaching decisions.
CJJ still needs to go to a coaching clinic and learn how to use a fracking timeout though.

Minus JOB, Hickey, Stringer, Carmouche, and Coleman, I guess you could say that.
We are about in a similar position now as we were then. Good starting lineup (although this current one is more talented), but no bench.
