Normand said he probably would not have struck Becker. "I'm not sure I would have struck him in the face for fear of injuring my hand," Normand said. "But I definitely would have kneed him in the groin."

Is he insinuating that the filing of a civil suit somehow vindicates the officer? That it was some sort of set up?

You must not have much experience on the street. It's a classic con-game:

1.Find an undercover cop
2.Fall on the ground and start pounding his fists with your face
3.Call a large African American attorney who goes after cops
4.Get paid.

I don't really know anything about this situation, but if the sheriff came out and the first words of his statement include the words "he was pissed off," then that's a bad sign. And coupled with some of the other statements, it's pretty scary that he's in power.

Fwiw, you can stand right in front of a cop all day long and yell frick the pigs as loud as you want
Not really.

Becker then was among as many as 30 people inside the Lakeside Mall parking garage that started yelling "f--k the pigs," the sheriff said. The officers attempted to calm the crowd, which again began chanting the anti-police vulgarities, Normand said.
If this is accurate, it's much different than one person standing in front of a deputy and yelling it. During Mardi Gras in a crowd of intoxicated people with violations already having occurred, the deputies probably had ample justification to do something. Whether they crossed the line is for someone else to decide.

Agree.

But letting a competitive fighter pound the arrestee in the face is a bit much.

Yeah you can.

I am ignorant of the law, but at some point wouldn't it potentially cross over into something like disorderly conduct or even inciting a riot? Those things aren't legal.

oh no, piggies feelings get hurt and he needed to roid rage on some children?

quote:

"My suspicions were validated as it relates to the intent of these parties, as it relates to what they were trying to accomplish related to the prosecution of a civil lawsuit against this office," Normand said.

so attempting to hold cops accountable for their actions is now proof of your own guilt?

holy shite.

actually....just chanting like that is not justification for assault. The officer lives were not in danger.

If your supposition was true, you could never protest about police brutality and lawlessness.

So if some random guy comes up and gets in your face, do you shove him back?

I am not choosing 1 side over the other because I wasn't there but this is laughable. I know the cop was undercover but the idea that a "random" guy just showed up during the course of an arrest just to jump in a teenagers face is ridiculous. That kid had to know he was yelling "frick the pigs" at a cop and not some random guy.

?

Even if it were (and I'm pretty sure you'd be breaking some kind of harassment laws), I still wouldn't suggest it. But by all means, give it a shot. Just make sure you explain to the cop that your actions are completely legal and I'm sure he won't beat the shite out of you.
