So I'm waiting on my new car to be shipped from a dealership in IN to my local dealership in Ohio. I was told the car would be there Tuesday, followed by today... only to have just been informed that now the dealer in IN is basically requiring my local dealer to send a similar model back before they'll go through with the transfer. Problem being, my local dealer doesn't have a similar vehicle to send to them.

My dealer, of course, tried to get me to take a similar model sans Tow Package(which the dealer would add after purchase) which I promptly declined.

So can a dealership really just hold a vehicle hostage like this? Anything I could do to speed up the process through corporate complaint? Or is that not how the car industry works.

Well that sucks. Of course, the model with specs I want is nearly impossible to find

They own it, up to them if they want to transfer it or not. If it's a hot selling vehicle that's in short supply there's nothing to gain for them by letting another dealer have it.

Anyone have any idea how long a custom build direct from the company tends to take?

I'm half tempted to just drive to Indiana to buy the car, but really don't want my money going to those assholes

How are they assholes when it's easier for them to keep the car and sell it on their lot?

Maybe because they have been stringing him along and telling him the new car will be there any day and not they are trying to switch the deal up at the last minute?

His local dealer is the one stringing him along. I'd call the Indiana dealer and buy it from them, for less money, and ask them to deliver it. Tell the salesman you'll give him a hundred dollar bill for info on the dealership that's got the car. If they've got it,and you can make the deal work, give him a finder's fee. Had a problem getting a truck in South Carolina last year. I ended up buying it from them and save $700.They met me halfway with paperwork.

I already know exactly where the car is. The VIN was on the Window Sticker shot the local salesman emailed me, so it was pretty easy to find.

Try to buy it from them, back of what your local dealer offered.

We don't know this for sure. That is what his dealer told him and there is a VERY good chance they aren't telling him the whole story.

I ran into this when I bought my 2015 mustang back in Nov. . Popular car nobody wanted to trade. had to go to the dealer that had the car and make the deal with them.
