if not for one alright year with the best WR in history (who was coming off a 23 TD year)

He's talking about Matt Cassell taking over for the New England Patriots in 2008. Randy Moss had a 23 touchdown season in 2007 while Tom Brady was also having an incredible season, and then Tom Brady tore his ACL at the beginning of the 2008 season.
