I disagree. He has a lot of wiggle in his game

But I do worry about that power clean box jump exercise...that looks dangerous on the knees. Anyone else agree? Never seen anyone do that.
its not that heavy, but he shouldnt have that rubberband around him. Pointless and that makes it dangerous

Love his motivation and work ethic. He is a monster. However, it is discouraging to see that he is doing dangerous exercises. The obvious fears are for his knees, ankles, and back. Would be horrible to see his dreams go up in smoke because of an injury sustained during training like those in the videos, especially that "clean+box jump". I hope someone close to him can get in his ear about training safely. Harder and creatively different do not mean better. I'm sure that trainer means well, but he clearly does not understand safe and effective training methods. Some of the hardest and most effective training I was put through used only my own body weight. From the looks of things, he has added some more of that in a good way.
I haven't had the pleasure of seeing him in person yet, but I highly suspect that will happen this upcoming season. He seems to be able to do it all. Run with speed. Run with power. He can make you miss or run over you. There is some finesse to his game, but it's not smooth running. It's the type of running you don't want to see coming towards you. The sky is the limit for that kid if he can stay healthy and continue to progress.

Click the link in the OP, then, across the top, there are three links. The rightmost one is photos and videos.

I have never said this about a back before, but that dude runs like Cecil. OH DEAR GOD LET HIM BE AS TALENTED (but not cray cray) AS CECIL!

that hurt my back just watching
That and seeing his knees go inward made me cringe
I'm pretty sure Coach M will tell him never to do that again. Do the exercise right, plus why in the hell is he doing box jumps with the bar. Make the box higher without the bar if you want to make it harder. Just asking to get hurt!

The box jump is too much obvious dumbassery. Let's breakdown that jumping jack military press with fricking sagital resistance on both sides.
its almost a good thing he(the trainer) is a dumbass. That band in the back may be actually kinda saving him, lol. Let's do OH press...and jump, making the weight even heavier and compressing more. Which is fine(still kinda silly, but safe enough)....until you try to pull his spine into frickING flexion while doing so. your spine looooves compression and flexion.
Then there's the band in the back. He thinks it's providing some resistance to the vertical jump....but 1. It's pulling him backwards too, prolly balancing out the front band, 2. He's really not jumping vertically so the dam band ain't doing anything.
So, summed up, if you take off both bands off, it's the same dam thing. Give a fish on a rake and call him the cat in the hat

agreed, the trainer is just making shite up by adding in all kind of resistance in every direction. Trainer is trying to promote himself more than anything.
Only exercise worth a damn is the ladder!

Moffitt probably called him and told him to stop doing that shite

quote:pretty much, but him bragging about how long the ladder is was the funniest part of all the videos. Wtf do I need a 100 yard ladder for? He's gonna dance from end zone to end zone? Lol.

quote:I'd be really surprised if he saw that and didn't. I would. Hell, I quiz my trainers all the time after a session about "why". I don't care what you do with a client as long as it's safe and you can give a good answer to the question "why". If your thinking is right, but application is wrong, we can fix that. But if you showboating for the camera like this or you just don't know what the hell you're doing....uhhhh.... Like this.... Then we got a problem, lol

Sounds like you know your stuff, I've got a few questions. I agree that almost all of the bands aren't even resisting the movements they're working on, and I totally agree that this much creativity is just counter productive at this point.
To me it looks like with a lot of the exercises they're using low-weight, high-reps to build explosiveness and power. With an athlete like Guice though, does it make any of the movements a little less concerning given he's not in there throwing around a ton of weight? Just wondering. Usually when you see really unorthodox movements they use light weight to minimize risk, but I agree most of this stuff is just ridiculous.
