I did a weed and feed too early last year and the weeds shot up within a week. I'd wait on the feed until you take care of the weeds.

First cutting of green-up. Only 5 more months til work slows down again...

This endless battle is kicking my arse. Called in reinforcements from GreenLawn guys and 6 times a year treatments. Used to have them before Katrina and the lawn was much more weed free than it is presently. Shouldn't have canceled the plan. I'll supplement with pulling weeds during grass cuttings.

Three weeks ago I put down some Fertilizer. I put Weed 'N Feed down a week ago and then immediately watered the back. Rained the next day but only lightly so the front yard was covered as well. Both the front and the back greened up real quick.
My backyard in the corner is OVERRUN with Weeds. I'm wondering if I can wear that @ss out with my weedeater tomorrow. I use a Reel Lawnmower so that's the only real prescription there (I'm on a small 1/3 acre lot size so it's not a huge task with my reel lawnmower).
My question is: Should I give the Weed 'N Feed more than a week before I get after the weeds with the weedeater or what do you guys suggest?

you did that backwards. you should have hit it with some weed killer only 3 weeks ago and then fertilizer last week. as far as what you have now, nothing is wrong with weedeating now. if the atrazine is in the root system it will die regardless so go ahead and cut them. be careful with over fertilizing your yard.

Okay thanks for the advice. The fertilizer I put down was literally about 3.5 minutes before 4-5 days straight of ran a few weeks back so I figured I was already to Weed 'N Feed since most of it had probably washed out anyway.

My grass in the backyard is basically gone due to the dog playing fetch.
What is the best product on the market to buy to get grass to grow back?

Sod
But if you're gonna continue playing fetch, it'll continue to die. If you're wanting to bring the existing grass back, use a fast release fertilizer (13-13-13, etc) and follow up later with a slow release to give the grass something to constantly feed in as it's constantly trampled.

What is the best thing to do with the poa now that it is in seed stage? I want to cut my grass, but I know it will spread more.

I layed down Scott's weed and feed Thursday morning, plan on cutting today or tomorrow. Should I apply weed and feed again in a week or so? Or just some form of fertilizer?

Image makes a spray for poa, but at this point just let it die off with the heat. Spray Simazine in November and you won't see it next spring

How long does atrazine take to work? I sprayed last Sunday and all weeds look healthy as ever.

Give it time...it does take a while to work, but has good residual activity. Want faster results, pop em with 2,4-D or metsulfuron methyl (MSM), not to be confused with MSMA. What weeds or type of weeds are you trying to kill, and in what type of turf grass?

POA, henbit, clover, dandilions, dhaligrass, and what ever the little frizzy plant that makes small little burrs is.
Mix of centipede and staugustine.

I'm not sure what these are
Or these

Top one looks kind of like wild geranium without the purple flowers.
Bottom one is definitely burweed, we always called it crab grass growing up, not knowing any different. Would always have to pull them out of your feet, arms playing barefoot in the yard.

What date To fertilize? Been spraying 24d a few times over the past month. Trying to find the optimum date.

Yeah, top is wild geranium and bottom is burweed. Any systemic broadleaf killer will take em out.

So I just cut for the first time yesterday afternoon. I went out and weedeated the back right corner in the backyard as weeds had completely overrun the area. Some were up above knee high.
I've already weed 'n feeded. Before that I had put some fertilizer down but it got rained on for 4 or 5 days straight right after.
What's next on the plan?
BONUS QUESTION: I have tons of unevenness in the backyard because the contractor waited months between the first pallet of sod and then laying the second one down towards the edge of the property. The rest that was uncovered finally grew in with wild grass last summer.
So we essentially have three terraced levels with huge seams and unevenness where erosion occurred at different parts of the backyard because of soil runoff.
With the grass having taken root, do we simply need to fill in with dirt where appropriate, and are there alternatives to river silt with the torpedo grass crap in it?
