The problem is your choice of games more than the console.
This. Expand the games you are willing to play or, if you're not interested in trying something new, pick up a different hobby for a few years and return to this one later.

You're going to get burned out playing nothing but sports games and COD. (I'd also avoid Assassin's Creed while you're at it.)

no PGA golf game on the horizon
You don't know what you're talking about. PGA Tour 15 coming Spring 2015

As far as your complaints, maybe you just don't enjoy gaming to the extent of paying $500. If so that's fine but it's totally on you. The game inventory is there but you aren't taking advantage.

Well we are into Spring 2015 and nothing has been expanded further on what will be in the game other than that battleship video.

I'm convinced that I might as well stick with my 360 alone and come back to the XBox One in a few years when my now 8 year old son is more into video games, the console will be cheaper, and the inventory is bigger.

I like Xbox's interface, but other than that I find it to be an underwhelming system.

What are you expecting from it...?

I find it to be a pretty robust entertainment system, that I occasionally play games on

Just get a PS4. You can play some legit baseball on that thing.

Also, The Golf Club is a golf game that is a startup. Although they don't have licensed gear and names I think it's been successful. And they're starting this tour play thing soon. Seems cool if you're into that.

Technically it is still Winter, Spring is a few more weeks out.

If you are not a FPS (Destiny/Titanfall/Halo) person, I would try some GTA V or Dead Rising 3 or Tomb Raider. Those are 3 real fun games and you can find them cheap now.
