Hope Lance gets a chance somewhere. Always loved him and thought he was very under-rated and under-appreciated.

Please no more robert shanle at WR.

If we had a injury in camp and he's still out there my wife and mom would chip in a few bucks to sign him.

It seems we've done a good job of releasing receivers right when they're done.

Agreed, Henderson, Meachem, and Moore were released right on cue.

Now if only we could do that for every other position.

Would like to bring him in fir training camp near the minimum.

Would assume he's washed up, but Brees spoke of him as a great teammate who went out of his way to help the younger receivers get better

Or maybe they weren't that good in the first place. I love the team but the receivers have always been average, minus Colston.

Don't forget too that Devery Henderson signed with the Redskins and didn't even make it to training camp.

Moore was the shite when he was here.

It's not like Brees turned him from nothing into an ultra productive receiver all by himself.
There's a reason we didn't keep these guys around after a certain point.

He couldn't get open the last season he was here

Man, if only there was another part of my post that expanded on that. Here:

Bringing him in near the minimum costs us next to nothing cap wise. I'm looking at the leadership side that we were lacking last year

So your plan is to bring in a WR who can't get open anymore for his leadership skills? Is there a leadership spot on the roster I was unaware of? Is his presence as a camp body/preseason cut going to inspire his teammates throughout the season?

Where did I say he would make the roster?

You bring him in to evaluate him and to benefit the other receivers learning process.

If he's washed up, you can cut him without punishment.

Only the top 52 count against the cap

Drew Brees on Lance Moore

quote:

The rare thing about Lance is you never needed to describe to him how you wanted the route run, he just knew how to run it. Some guys you say okay, we are going to run this type of route and we are looking for you to seem it two steps then push vertical and when you get to this depth you are going to make this break or do that or whatever. You’d just tell Lance the route and what we are trying to attack and he would say okay, I know how that route needs to be run. He would go out there and he would run it and you’d be like, yes, that is perfect. So it was just a lot of unspoken things with Lance. He was extremely smart, extremely intelligent, great football IQ and just so smooth, just knew how it was supposed to look, knew how it was supposed to feel. Man, he did it for a long time for us and I hated to see him go. He was such an integral part of that receiver core and also just the room itself, a guy who I always saw working with young guys just to help them on little things. That was always Lance. He was really a player coach as much as he was a player.

Really can't understand how someone could be so against what I said. No risk, possible reward.

I'm not trying to be ugly, just giving my opinion.....Leadership is one thing, sure, but bringing a "leadership" guy like Lance for training camp even if it is just for camp also takes spot away from possibly another young WR that could do now what Lance can no longer do and that is get open and produce.....I understand that's not a "huge" risk, but the fact is there are only so many camp spots to go around, and we could even miss out on the "next Lance Moore" by bringing Lance back to camp because we do have a good track record of bringing in UDFA's to camp just like Lance was and having them make this team.....Much like re-signing Meachem, I don't see how signing somebody who you cut and hasn't too productive 2 years in a row helps our team get better

Well they expanded the training camp rosters to 90 and they might be expanding it even more this year.

That is a valid concern though, but I'd at least like him to come in and workout. Would much rather have a guy with his role than Meachem. He was able to make a pretty loaded roster in Pitt last year despite injuries, and I still think he may have the talent to make our roster, even in a backup role in case Cooks or Stills goes down.

I don't disagree with that mentality, but I also worry about the locker room issues we supposedly had last year, including Morgan at WR.

He was starting for a bit. I'm not suggesting that at all. I just think that Moore has a lot to offer the younger guys in terms of development, while also being able to possibly contribute.

I've said that he may be washed up several times. I can't understand it for you too.

I've also said that it is time to part ways with Evans, wanted to part ways with Bushrod, want to part ways with Goodwin, wanted to part ways with Malcolm Jenkins and Roman Harper.

This is about adding cheap depth that can also serve a secondary role. According to all the reports, this team greatly lacked the work ethic and leadership that the past saints teams displayed. I'm not suggesting that we pay the guy a big contract, I'm suggesting that we pay him near nothing.

If he's washed up, we should be able to tell that from a workout and/or training camp. Zero risk
