Pretty good read about Chris Rose's rise and fall. I had no idea he had such a nasty scrip habit and was reduced to waiting tables (not that there's anything wrong with that). Dude sounds like a mess. I hope it all works out for him. I can't believe he can't get some sort of journalism job somewhere.

SIAP, I searched.

Wow. I remember watching his spots on the news and thought that they were great. He pissed Benson off for sure and ruffled others' feathers so he kind of brought a lot on himself. He is a great writer though. Really nuts to hear that he will be guiding tours around the city. The rise and the fall

Read this earlier and thought about posting it, but figured there was no way someone hadn't already.

Very interesting read.

He got more bitter the older he got, IMO.

Talented though.

Chris Rose thinks a lot of Chris Rose.

A guy who sits down at an interview and willingly discusses three trips to rehab and that he went from Pulitzer Prizes and NYT Best Sellers to waiting fricking tables doesn't have pride. He's got zero fear of sharing his vulnerability.

That's the exact opposite of ego. You're not very bright. At all.

I screwed up and brought 1 Dead In Attic on a vacation trip. It was a car wreck that I couldn't stop rubber-necking at while the vacation was supposed to be happening.
Not recommended reading for what are supposed to happy times.

I hope he gets his life back together.

I guess it makes sense, but I found it shocking that all of the money from that book went to Times Pic. I guess he signed a contract stating that if a book is published, with his Times Pic articles, they get the profits. Well played on their end.

I get what you're saying. I thought the quote about the tours he wants to do:

quote:

“If I was nobody, there is no way I could pull it off

came off as a little conceited. I know people who make a good living doing tours and they are "nobodies". I'm not going to take a tour just because Chris Rose is giving it.

Prediction: he does the tours, someone on said tour offers him some shite and he's back to square one within a year.

I hope he makes it.

The book is a compilation of Rose's columns from the T-P.

As you say the T-P had already paid Rose to do the writing when he originally submitted the columns as his regular weekly work, hence the columns were not his property, unless he had a contract which allowed something different.

That would have been highly exceptional but not unheard of, as in Dave Barry-esque.

I have no sympathy for him, he is not an ignorant or unsophisticated person.

Yeah, he kind of came off that way in the interview.
No doubt, I hope he gets his act together, but blaming Tom Benson b/c he can't get hired is goofy.

Bitter was the best way to describe him.

The TP got the money from the book, because it consisted of articles he wrote for them. I knew about the restaurant gig, but was shocked that he admitted that he recently took the money he raised, via kickstarter, to write a book, and blew it. That's probably part of the reason why he's having a hard time getting hired somewhere.

Well, Tom Benson owned the news affiliate that he worked for. He said some things that didn't sit well with Benson or his brand. Let him go. Benson is connected so try not to burn bridges. Same can be said in every industry. People today believe that they can't be fired anymore.

I'm certain his behavior and poor work ethic had a lot more to do with it than any blackball by Benson.
