I don't see what's so hard to grasp here:

More points on offense = less pressure on defense

Less points on offense = more pressure on defense

The Defense's job doesn't change based on the score. They're supposed to keep the other team off the scoreboard.

Did he want license to take a few series off? He wanted mediocrity to pass as success?

Seems like he should have just focused on what he could control, which is making the defense the best it could be and winning every series. Failure is never acceptable.

I think he wanted larger leads so that he wouldn't have to defend a lead late in the game and get exposed, which he repeatedly did.

I agree with Chavis

So you're a heartless coward too? It's a team sport. off def and sp. Teams come together as one. 1 gets the others back in down times. if that was his reason for leaving then he truly is a fat pussy

Bamas D actually got worse when Kiffen arrived and got away from the run game.

no it got worse because they had a mediocre secondary.

I doubt it. As I said earlier, I think it's more likely that the AD is more or less letting Sumlin hang himself by hiring Chavis. If he can't win with a proven DC, he's not going to win.

hey cool, we agree on something.

I am telling you, right now, aTms defense was bad because of coaching.

I have no idea what you are responding to, so I'll assume its the 6 times in 6 seasons line. first, 6 times is using the games yall believe the defense blew. I disagree with that number. I will concede that the bama 2012 game, and the UGA 2013 game is on the defense. so really, its more like twice. so really, its more like once every three seasons. not really that bad at all.

secondly, I still, in 16 pages, have not gotten an answer as to why our defense is expected to get a 3 and out every possession, but no one "expects" our offense to score every drive.

if you are going to sit here and say that a defense should stop the opposing offense, every time, then why is it that the offense is not expected to score everytime, regardless of how bad the defense is playing (which, a reminder, was very rare)?

You have no idea what youre talking about. Bad coaching doesnt allow mid major schools to run all over you. Tex A&M doesnt have talent on defense regardless of their star rankings, which is a projection of talent at the collegiate level.

Since 2009, when our defense has attempted to preserve a lead late in the 4th, LSU is 11-6.

Since 2012, in such games, LSU is 6-5.

2009 Penn State
2012 Alabama
2012 Clemson
2013 Ole Miss
2014 Alabama
2014 Notre Dame

This doesn't include near-disasters like 2014 Florida, aTm, or Ole Miss.

An offense's goal changes based on the conditions of a particular game. It can either be to score or to burn clock.

But in a typical scenario, our offense is expected to score every drive.

You can blame the offense just as much here........

This game was doubly bad because of the 2-minute drill score Bama had before the half as well. So...TWO 2-minute drill collapses that lead to 14 points. Without that, LSU wins comfortably at least 17-7.

Sure, because they didn't score more points than they did which really only mattered because the defense eventually faltered.. However, the fact that the points they did score were enough for the lead late with 1 or 2 minutes left means the fault falls squarely on the defense.

the intensity level of the defense should always be the same at an elite SEC program.

our offense usually isnt.

The job of the offense is to score....

should we talk about shutouts to winless SEC teams?

Lsu's offensive totals will always be lower because of a ball controlled offense and the fact that we rarely run a hurry up no huddle.

we run the gopher, look at me offense with no passing game. That's not what you described.

Our defensive totals will almost always be ranked high because of our ball control offense doesnt give the other teams offense a lot of plays.

TOP doesnt mean the defense will be good. The defense also has to stop the other team.

quote:

Points per play and yards per play,on offense and defense, are more pure stats because it isnt skewed by TOP or plays ran. Maybe i wasnt explaining it well enough

No. Points per play is total points.

Yards per play is the best metric for both offense and defense to see how effective they are...
