Will Smith has been done in by trying to do movies outside his target audience. He's trying to do Pursuit of Happiness-like movies instead of the summer blockbusters that have really made his career. He's also much more involved in the making of these movies instead of just acting as far as I know, and clearly it's not working out

Pursuit of Happyness made a ton of money. After Earth was, theoretically, a summer blockbuster. I don't think he was trying to get a huge opening out of Focus he probably just wanted a solid movie. His next movie, Concussion should do the same because I can't see that premise being a big hit on a holiday weekend.

Pursuit of Happyness was very successful, yes. But outside of that and hitch, all of his biggest successes have been blockbusters. Independence Day, MIB, Bad Boys, I am Legend, I Robot, Hancock. Yes After Earth tried to be similar to those and failed miserably, but that and Wild Wild West are the only major failures of his career in those types of movies, whereas he's failed several times now in movies with less action and more serious tones

I am sure he is making big money doing these movies. He probably doesnt care as long as the checks keep coming in.

Sort of reminds me of Tom Cruise after the whole Oprah jumping on the couch incident. It took him doing some things like his role in Tropic Thunder to make people move past it.

Plus Tom has really dialed back on bringing up Scientology. You never hear him discuss it anymore, for the better.

I both worked on and saw Focus. Do not recommend. The story is all over the fricking place

So you're saying Focus lacked focus?

Like any other brand, Will Smith has just gotten a little "stale." You can only carry so many movies before people get a little tired of it. Eventually people quit seeing your characters and just see you.

I've said for a while that Smith needs to throttle back on being the mega star and do some ensemble roles where he's not the main focus. That's probably tough to do from an ego standpoint.

When Valkyrie is one of your worst performances, you're still doing pretty good.

Hell, I enjoyed Knight and Day. I thought he played the role as a characture of himself, a little manic. Made me laugh. Ghost Protocol was not bad, and Edge of Tomorrow is one of the funnest SciFi action movies I've ever seen.

Any one of these is better than anything Will Smith has put out in the last 10 years.

That was a great move by Tom IMO. I have always liked Tom Cruise movies. For some reason, I just like him in films. Jack Reacher was pretty good too and so was Edge of Tomorrow. He's done some solid work.

Exactly. Will Smith needs to follow the Tom Cruise template and do some fun blockbuster type movies for a bit and nothing else. Looks like he might be doing that by signing up for Suicide Squad. Cruise did Ghost Protocol, Jack Reacher, Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow, and now he's doing MI5. It helped that all of those were pretty decent movies.

I agree, Seven Pounds was a very good film imo.

I think Smith is a great actor. I think h messed up not taking Django though.

I'm going to go ahead and say you've never seen the movie.

You can't remember the name but you remember that it's one of his worst performances? Right.
