Do the baggage guys work for the airline or for the airport?
Baggage guys work for the airlines directly. They have no association with the airport or airport authority, other than the fact that they work on the airport property.

Who are you with if you don't mind my asking? I work in airfield ops and safety at LFT.

United blows.
There are shittier non-major airlines, but United is the worst large carrier. The other big carriers are close, all domestic airlines are terrible these days, but United is rock bottom.
I loved Continental. They were MY airline. They treated you well, took care if their fleet, their booking systems functioned properly, and their emoloyees liked them. Their merger with United is nothing short of a tragedy. I remember for about a year after the merger, if you had a Continental crew, they'd announce themselves as a former Continental crew pre-flight and passengers would CHEER. I weep for what we lost in Continental Airlines.

They used to work for the airlines, now they are contracted out so the majors can save money. Look at the recent cluster in Denver for United, that's all because they switched contractors for ground services to the lowest bidder that has no idea what they are doing. That's why the gates are never ready for the arrivals and the bags aren't making their transfers.

No question. The last straw for me was when they pulled the hub out of my base, CLE. No more direct flights for me. If I have to connect, I damn sure am not doing it thru Ohare or Newark with United. They have made me 20% less effective every week on the road due to schedules.

I flew with them last month, the first time in more than a decade. Four flights, in and out of Chicago. They were actually surprisingly good.
Honestly, there isn't a lot of difference between domestic major carriers. Usually just tedious, but sometimes awful.

Only issue I really had was sitting on the plain for an hour both ways and being late each time going from Houston to new Orleans.

that have been flying for smaller airlines for years,
oddly enough these are the guys that are having the hardest time getting through new hire training where I work, I don't get it, the repetition alone should take care of stick and rudder issues, but it's more of a situational awareness thing

Ticked off FA does not bother me, I sleep as soon as I get on a plane, but ticked off people in the cockpit is another thing.
I think the people in the cockpit want to land safely just as much as you. I'd worry more about that hot coffee landing in your lap than the plane not landing.

Fly United into Dulles on the reg. Never had any problems.
Recently have been forced to fly USAir into Reagan National and have not been as happy with the perfomance.
The hate for United is typically overstated here on the OT. United is just fine. The OP is likely trying to vent due to a personal experience.

So, airlines have turnover like every other industry. Interesting.
Yes, but the margin for error is much smaller in the airline industry...I think I would steer clear of United if possible..
