I have never once heard anyone make a serious comment about it.

However those "Cotton" license plates, yea. Those seem racist. Only driven by white frat guys at LSU who don't work for a cotton company.

I've heard lots of serious comments about those. Personally I don't give a shite.

Well, we have a farm that grows Cotten when we get more money for that than soybeans.

Big investment to have cotton harvesting equipment and not use it. Yall just let it sit in a barn and pull it out every so often when cotton is higher than soybeans? Not wise to chase the market.

We don't harvest our own. Family member does it for us. Just hope to cover the taxes every year. We don't live there full time so just trying to break even on the land every year.

I honestly couldn't tell you why some people put it on their cars or belt buckles. I personally don't sport it because I have no direct connection to cotton other than my shirts. I figured they were farmers or the same reason frat boys drive 4x4's to pose as hunters, farmers or good ole country boys. I grew up in south LA and have seen the cotton plates and buckles and never once thought they are referring to slavery.

ETA: people put DU, delta , yeti etc... For the reason they support or take part in that activity. So if I see cotton I think farmer or frat. John Deere. Same thing. I try not to dig to deep into things to find some reason that isn't there.

Not relevant to a license plate referring to a crop in 2015

Growing up, we had a Yankee neighbor whose mother came down to visit, right after they built their house.

She saw black guys with croker sacks planting grass sprigs and went off on her daughter for using slaves to plant the yard. No shite.

Yankees are going to keep alive whatever negative stereotype about the South they can because it justifies them feeling better about themselves, kind of like how the white supremacist sees every car with spinners and a booming sound system as validation of his beliefs.

Can't change our way from growing a plant that's ideal for the region

Did they elaborate or explain their comments?
How did you respond?
