Posted this on the recruiting board but will post here as well since some don't venture over there.

After talking with some folks and digging on it, this comes down to Les making an in home visit in October. October is not a contact period, therefore Less made an in home visit during a non contact period. Major violation and things could've been much worse penalty wise. Still a bulkshit rule but the rule is the rule and we broke it. Now they need to fix or abolish the rule or we need to no longer allow FAAs to be signed.

Was the visit allowed if the faa was signed? If so, we broke no rules.

so let me get this straight.

NCAA lets players sign financial agreement
NCAA lets schools have unlimited contact with players who sign a financial agreement
NCAA lets players who sign financial agreement not attend the school they sign financial agreement with

AND

NCAA penalizes the school for using the unlimited contact the NCAA allowed under a nonbonding financial agreement?

thats just a bad fricking rule.

we should get our recruits to sign a FAA with every other school in the SEC and then sign a LOI with us on signing day thereby fricking every single other institution in the SEC

LSU should leave the SEC
The timing is ripe for the formation of the NEW Southwestern Conference.

ALL the Texas schools, plus Oklahoma, Okla.State, Arkansas and LSU!

That would be one hell of a conference. Record TV contract.

Who hires the compliance office workers for LSU? Coming from recruits and their families, these guys are borderline anti LSU.

Womack trying to troll us now on twitter

He lives in Hernando,MS. How bout some local Tiger fans go troll his car up real good.

Womack never had any intention of coming to LSU. He wanted to go to Alabama from the begginning, but didn't have an offer from them. He didn't get a Bama offer, until after he committed to LSU. I don't even think Bama wanted him that bad. Their offer was probably just to keep him out of Baton Rouge.

BTW, does anybody know if he is related to THE Mark Womack of the SEC office and ex-Bama football player?

How can it be illegal contact if a contract was signed? This smells like Bama Alumi Bull shite. We should send a petition on the decision and bring case to supreme court.

So, here's what happened?

A recruit signs Financial Aid papers (this give LSU unlimited contact) with LSU then flips to another school, signing on national signing day.

LSU gets two years of sanctions because of this?

There's NO WAY these sanctions stick if LSU pursues any/all legal remedies!

Shame on LSU if the kid was not firm on his commitment. I've never heard of this happening before, wow brutal.

LSU absolutely needs to fight this. We also need to start looking around at kids who have signed FAA around the SEC and go scorched earth turning schools in.

No, pointing out stupidity should never be.

This has got to be one of the dumbest decisions coming out of the SEC powers that be.

It's ridiculous for two reasons:
This wasn't a decision LSU made, it's based on a kids decision that changed his mind, as kids do, for whatever reason.

And that's the second part of this stupidity.

When there are hosts of legitimate reasons for a kid to "de-commit", why the frick would you then penalize the program based on a kid doing so, and that's what this is based on.

Meaning the kid signed a financial agreement with LSU, and intended to enroll early, so how the frick would LSU know he would for whatever reason change his mind.

There is nothing from the article to suggest that LSU did nothing but act in "good faith" that is assuming what any reasonable person would that he would attend, that how can this "unlimited" contact be a violation.

What this will do is aid other schools competing with LSU for recruits, this gives them a competitive advantage,

and it hurts other recruits that have done absolutely NOTHING wrong but simply want to go to LSU and play football.

So fricking stupid.

Anyone know how LSU can appeal this officious crap ruling?

It might be the only way to get it changed is to get a few other schools behind this. Hopefully they are proactive and see how their arse's can be hanging out in the wind. I wouldn't want some 17-18 year old kid to have this kind of power over a school.

NCAA

quote:

The penalties, handed down by the Southeastern Conference and reported by the school Feb. 3, stem from a violation that occurred this fall involving an unnamed recruit.

This sanction is from the SEC, and I would like to see the NCAA rule IN CONTEXT to see the reasoning behind why this is an alleged violation.

quote:

The NCAA modified the financial aid agreement (FAA) in April. It continued to allow schools “relaxed recruiting rules” for prospects who signed a financial aid agreement, but it also warned schools that they could be penalized for recruiting violations if that prospect did not eventually enroll in that school.

Anyone have a link to the actual rule because this is BS.

And can anyone explain why schools should be penalized if a kid changes his mind?

So you have "unlimited contact", how the frick is this an unfair competitive advantage when the kid decommits, and decides to go to another school.

Nothing was gained by the school he de-committed from.

But if they just have to penalize a school, why the hell isn't it the school he eventually decides to go to? AND enrolls in.

Seriously, this doesn't make sense, anyone have a possible reasonable explanation?
