How else would you get it home from the store?
Or to put it another way, I asked our Sheriff once if it was legal to keep a pistol in the door pouch and he said, "Son, it ought to be illegal not to have a gun in your door. If you ever get pulled over, hand the officer your license, registration and let him know there is a pistol in there with you. Some will want to clear the weapon, and some will say thank you. There is no law against having a gun in your car."
He went on to say, "If you lie about having a gun in your car, and they find it... you'll be in violation of concealed weapons laws. Letting the officer know about it is the big difference between you and the crack dealers on the bad side of town."

You are a Baton Rouge driver.
You're less dangerous with a gun in your hand than you are behind the wheel.
Yes, it's legal.

In Texas it is not legal.
you also no longer have to declare your weapon in your care in TX if stopped for a routine stop.

he was full of shite if he really said that. The only time you have to tell a cop about a gun is if you have the gun concealed on yourself and have a cc permit.

I'm just repeating what he said. I'm sure they trump up charges on thug crack dealers.
Are you saying it's none of their business and if they were to find it in a subsequent search it's okay because there is no law stating you must disclose the fact there is a gun in the car?

For sure, I see what y'all are saying. I think he was getting at the idea of disclosing it will comfort the officer as opposed to hiding it and making the cop wonder what else you are hiding.

Are you sure he sad something like that? Sounds fairly ignorant

Im not worried about comforting an officer. its just an excuse for the officer to try and dig around in your car. give me my ticket and let me move on. I see no reason to offer up any more information than I have to during a traffic stop. A cop doesnt need anything but my license, reg, and insurance. he doesnt need to know where I am going, what I am doing, or what I have in my car.
