Man, this was 10 years ago. The high point of the conversation was that it is legal to keep a gun in your car.

He encouraged me to disclose it if I was ever pulled over.

I think the concealed weapon violation was a reference to piling on charges when they catch someone with drugs and a gun together. Maybe it was just general "weapons violations" and not "concealed violations". I don't know, I'd leave my gun at home if I was going on a crack buying spree.

In Texas it is not legal.

you also no longer have to declare your weapon in your care in TX if stopped for a routine stop.

I am confused. You can't have it, but you can hide it?

You can have it but it must be concealed. Having it on the seat is not concealed. (Hand guns that is. Long guns are legal open carry including in your truck.)

You do not have to declare you are concealed carrying unless actively being arrested.

I was also told this when pulled over. He asked if I had any weapons and I told him there was one in the door. He unloaded it but gave me back the ammo once the stop was over.

They may not have a right to know things, and you can sure refuse to tell them anything, but it doesn't hurt to be cooperative with the law if you're not doing anything wrong.

The people that want to argue with a cop over his rights are the first ones to run to a lawyer crying about their civil rights.

If you're a CHL holder and you are requested for id buy a peace officer and you are carrying, then you have to show your CHL (ie you have to declare your carrying). Are you saying this has changed?

Agree.

It also may open a dialogue and show that you aren't a PITA to deal with.

May save you a ticket...

Good thing I don't have to worry about impressing some dick bag like you on the internet with my knowledge of laws that don't really apply to me.

I thought he meant you can't have it on the seat/in car if you DON'T have a conceal carry permit but if you DO have a permit you could.

True story. Going down to Venice on a fishing trip, I had to stop in New Orleans at the sports shop for some tackle. I had a buddy and his brother with me. His brother, a very big dude was sitting shotgun.

We got off in down town New Orleans. Stopped at a red light, my buddies brother starts counting hundred dollar bills, holding them up high so anyone out side could see. I look at him and asked WTF? Told him we are not in a good part of town. He looked at me and told me that the bait is out and he is trolling, packing a 45 under his leg. Crazy SOB.
