for some reason i see/get pics of good birds most of the year till deer season rolls in (area 4). while getting ready for dove a few years ago i counted 22 jakes and hens in 2 separate groups at once in one of my fields. once deer shuts down they show back up (till turkey season opens). checked cameras this past weekend and have 2 GOOD toms on camera. i've never turkey hunted in my life because i'd rather be fishing during turkey season but thinking about making a run at it this year.
i've got ZERO idea of what to do other than go sit at the edge of a field with a shotgun. any advice is appreciated, tia.

I will bet money, die hard turkey hunters will be along shortly to offer their hunting skills on your land. This is probably your best way to learn...

i don't have much woods, but there are some regular paths most of the wildlife takes onto my property from my neighbor's place - with whom i am on friendly terms with (important!)

My insurance agent used to be a turkey guide and offered his services last season. We struck out the only day we went, but will try again next month.

Keep the grass in the field at or below knee high. They won't like it as much/won't be able to see them if it's much taller.

Full camo that matches your surroundings. Gloves facemask etc

Since you don't have much woods, you will probably just want to hunt the field the turkeys are working rather than trying to locate birds on roost so...
Learn to make a few calls on a slate or box call
Get a decoy or two
Hunt area of field that they are using. Call occasionally. Birds should come at some point. A gobbler or group of them without hens most likely will come to check out what's going on. A mixed group may work their way over.

This is how I would start based upon what you have told me of the layout and you not having turkey hunted before. There are obviously many more things and much more indepth locating calling and decoy strategies but I wouldn't concern myself with that just yet or you will break the bank. Don't worry that will come later if one puts on a show and gets you hooked.

Go night before. Watch them from distance. See where they roost. Go next morning before sunrise and set up somewhere close to where you saw them in the field and the roosting tree. Get a hen decoy, get a mouth call, get a camo cloth to stake infront of you, get the stuffing and gravy ready

Turkey hunting isn't as hard as people make it out to be. Put out a turkey decoy, a couple sacks of corn, sit in your box stand, boom Thanksgiving dinner.

Those bastards have caused a lot of temptation during deer season but I have not killed one yet!

Same thing here. We see them all year except for during deer and turkey season. Saw 8 hens Sunday while out squirrel hunting.

Not die hard, but when we going Mack.

Put up some turkey hunting videos and get a couple decoys and a call or two. lay with the call. After that, right before season, you have to put some leg work in to find were the birds are roosting. Open morning of season, set up within 100 yards of birds, BAM. Or, just go to Win Dixie and hunt one up there.

I'm late. Sorry.

OP, before we get too carried away with assistance on killing these turkeys, lets see a map of it. We don't need a location map, just a sketch or google earth screenshot with your property lines and the habitat on your property and adjacent.

Just getting into turkey hunting this year as well. We've been seeing them in the same field on our property for years. Finally got the urge to set up a hunt. I'm interested to hear some words of wisdom from the OB

55 gal drum with one end open

put open end on ground and corn on the top for 2 or 3 weeks. turkeys will get use to landing on it eating the corn.

turn barrel over

Turkey in a tub.
