Simmons is probably the closest to a lock that there is this year.

oh, well since it's the "official thread", I feel more comfortable to post. Nothing makes me more angry than leaving a comment in an unofficial thread.

Virtually every acting category is a lock this year. Simmons will win, Arquette will win, and Moore will win. Eddie Redmayne is most likely going to win Best Actor but there is a slight chance that Michael Keaton or Bradley Cooper upsets.

Me and my wife watched Birdman last night. I do not get the hype of this film or with Keaton's performance. The movie was okay and different I guess, but this is one of more overrated Oscar flicks I've seen in years.

Yeah, I wasn't enamored with Birman either but I did think Keaton's performance was outstanding.

If Simmons wins, does he continue doing Farmers Insurance commercials? That's gotta be embarrassing for an Oscar winner to do goofy commercials.

Think McConaughey cares about how he looks in Lincoln commercials? No he cares about how those checks look.

gonna watch that later today or tomorrow. keep hearing great things

went on a binge the other day and watched the imitation game, the theory of everything and birdman all back to back. they were all solid movies but I thought the imitation game was far better than the other two. am I in the minority here? I thought birdman was going to be the clear best of those but imitation game just captivated me

Is there anywhere you can stream it in hd? I got an email yesterday saying it was on Amazon but when I look it's not there.

Who do y'all think takes Best Picture/Director? Does Boyhood win both, or do they split and give Birdman Best Picture/Linklater Best Director?

I think it splits and the split could go either way. If I had to guess I'd go with Birdman as BP and Linklater as Director. If there is a sweep it will be Birdman.

Kirk Cameron sweeps it all as a write in.

Book it.

First time in a while I have no dog in this fight. I don't think I even saw any of the Oscar nominated movies.

Yep, just checked. Only movie I saw nominated for any of the major awards was Grand Budapest Hotel. It was meh. None of the Oscar nominated movies I want to see are out on DVD yet, unfortunately. My favorite movies this year were Dawn of the Plane of the Apes and The Hobbit. Since neither one got nominated for anything major, screw the Oscars.

Snakes on a Plane Sequel?

Edge of Tomorrow (aka Live, Die, Repeat) was my favorite film of the year.

Perhaps. I found The Imitation Game good, but paint by numbers simple. Loved Birdman and Grand Budapest Hotel, but yeah wasnt over impressed by homegrown product this year. Loved Ida as well.
