WalterFootball 2015 Free Agent Corners

Outside of Center, I feel getting a 2nd CB this off season is critical. Looking at the free agent crop, there are some older vets and some younger guys.

Assuming they free up some money for FA, would you like them to go after a Antonio Cromartie or some younger blood like a Antwon Blake from Pitt.

Saints definitely need to upgrade the cb spot opposite of k. Lewis. Free agency seems the best route for immediate impact as most rookie corners take some time to develop.
As a project pick I was thinking it could interesting to draft Nick Marshall out of Auburn. Most people know his story , signed with Georgia out of high school as a DB. Played sparingly his freshmen year, transferred to Auburn to play QB in malzahn's spread. Played great.
Invited to senior bowl as a corner , played ok with only 4 days of practice .
Invited to nfl combine as QB but will hold individual workouts for teams as a DB.
They guy is super fast & has a big arm.
The saints under Payton typically only keep 2qb's on the active roster.
If the saints can get this guy in the 5th round or later he could really be an asset. He could very well end up being a good corner , an emergency 3rd string QB and a stud on special teams .
He's a hell of an athlete and will make a team , just hope it's not the falcons or patriots.

Yea the saints could certainly use another project pick at cornerback.

Nick Marshall will spend 3 years on a practice squad and then go play in the arena league.

Need proven entity. Now's not the time to be taking on projects at that spot. Cromartie would be great and probably just in our range. The Maxwell type players will be too much

Lol at Marshall being mentioned as a QB in any way. No idea about his CB capabilities, though. Certainly a very late round project at best.

Saints need to get a cb in free agency. I'm done drafting them

I'd like to see us go after Cromartie. He'd fit in Ryan's scheme, and still has some good play in him. Although I'm not sure what his pay range is and if the Saints could handle it.

How bad was that SJB pick last year?

That pick is one of the reasons I'd like to see us go after a proven commodity.

I think a vet corner is a must. No way can we rely on a rookie to start after last season. If they want to draft one after the signing one, then fine. But our #1 FA priority has to be CB. I could be wrong, but I doubt we repeat last offseason and use most of what cap space we have on 1 FA (Byrd last year, Maxwell this year).

Kareem Jackson is the guy I want. Kind of under the radar but was a great number 2 for the Texans this year and won't command the money that Maxwell will.

Jackson would be great, but I think he'll make close to what Maxwell will get.

I like Culliver (SF) and Tarrell Brown (Oak) as reasonably priced, very capable #2CBs. Dennis Allen just got finished coaching Brown for a year, so I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the guy we sign as a ~two year fix. Culliver would probably be my favorite ~$5m/yr or less player given his age.

Guys I like on the FA list that we could get at a solid price: Kareem Jackson, Tramon Williams, Chris Culliver, Darius Butler, Sterling Moore.

Didn't think about the Dennis Allen - Tarrell Brown angle. Definitely a possibility.

Agree that a vet seems to fit. I suspect the Patriots model of getting Revis & Browner to a title will be sought after by many teams. I'd love a quality value acquisition but won't be surprised if it is bigger than expected (like Byrd) last year.

The Packers Davon House & Tramon Williams are both decent and on the market too.

The other factor is Trae Waynes may be the only CB that could deserve consideration at #13.

Agreed, but the value just isn't there at 13 for him. None of these CBs in the draft seem very good at all.
