While I agree that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a bigger dumpster fire than the Grammys, and that's saying something, Def Leppard shouldn't be on anyone's short list just yet. Commercial success has little to do with influence, ingenuity, and creativeness.

That is one of the dumbest things ever written on the MB. Dumber even than my erroneous statement that the Beastie Boys didn't play musical instruments. Just dumb.
But I do agree that the RRHOF is a dumpster fire.

I'm no fan of Def Leppard, but I think if the RRnHOF weren't a monument to Boomer Nostalgia, they'd have a great case.
They clearly aren't letting in the most influential acts of the 80s (the Mats, Smiths, Pixies, New Order and the like have never even been nominated), so why not let in a commercially successful act? It's not like Def Leppard are not one of the best examples of crossover hair metal success. When you think 80s music, they are one of the representative bands of the era. They were perhaps the best band of one of the most popular genres of their time.

While I disagree with the "long ahead" - this is yet another NWOBHM band that deserves to be in the HoF - if that distinction is to carry any weight.
I mean, come one - Ricky Nelson? The Supremes? James Taylor? Donovan?
And other than Donovan, these are legendary artists, just not traditionally defined as Rock and Roll. I can, sort of see an argument for the Beastie Boys (really sketchy), but Public Enemy? Legendary hip hop act, but not rock and roll.
Linda Rondstadt? Dusty Springfield? Cat Stevens?

Def Leppard are a fricking joke. Sure, there are people who shouldn't be in the RRHOF, but that will never mean that these assclowns should. There are dozens and dozens of more talented and prolific bands that aren't in the HOF.
The RRHOF sucks balls, but so do Def Leppard.
