Texas as seen through the eyes of Houston

Credit to thrillist.com for this... I'd say this is about right except that the Gumbo reference needs to be a little further south, but that would interfere with the slam on Beaumont!
This map also perfectly identifies the "Houston-centric" mindset (culture???) that is pretty easy to spot... especially at 5:00 on the freeways!

As a Houstonian I can confirm the accuracy of this map.

Nothing says Shreveport like gumbo.

Spring Break in Texas sounds fricking miserable.

there was an article in our paper(TX) today about the flagship food of New Orleans --gumbo, not even right about that

Yeah, that needs to be further south but it could just be to make room for the trashing (redundant?) of Beaumont.
On the bright side, I'd wager that the donkey shows location is fairly accurate!

As a former Woodlands resident this map is lame, try hard, inaccurate and makes zero sense

Yeah, I don't really get the map... other than showing a lot of obvious things and associations about Texas.
whataburger HQ is in SA now, not Corpus anymore.

Not saying it doesn't have good food, but when I hear gumbo, I don't instantly think New Orleans either. Now when I hear beignets, bananas foster, and lucky dogs... then I think about New Orleans.

the whole country kind of hopped on the Cajun food band wagon when NOLA had the world's fair there, before that Cajun food wasn't as prevalent as Creole food and other variations, hell most places that served bawl crawfish there at the time chilled them before serving

At least they have College Station right

I think the Thrillist tries too hard sometimes, although their food lists usually have some decent recommendations. They don't quite succeed in emulating Texas Monthly, but there is a certain Houston Press/alt media approach that follows the trends du jour in what they put out.

Pretty sure that's the point.
