Saw these guys a few weeks ago in Houston. Fun to watch. They sound even better live than they do on their CD. Love the soul sound with the horns and organ. I looked at their site to see if they were playing close by anytime soon. Unfortunately they are headed off to Europe, but they do play in New Orleans in April. Worth seeing, especially if you qualify as middle age like me or even if you are in your 20's.

I saw them in BR and completely agree. They sound great on a CD but its not even comparable to what they can do live. They sold out the Varsity and had it rocking all night. Hands down, one of the best shows I have ever seen.

I'll be honest, I find the music pretty meh, but I did see them live. What an entertaining show.

They're basically the greatest wedding band of all time.

You sound like an idiot. I respect what they do a great deal. It's a white guy singing soul music. It's kind of banal to me, thus I don't listen to them in the car or at home. But I did see them live and thought it was awesomely entertaining.

I'd love to have them playing their songs with some Van Morrison at my wedding. Don't get offended just because your top 3 favorite artist isn't my favorite, especially when I'm complimenting them.

You make a good point. The first time I heard "Call Me" I was kind of blown away. The more I heard it, it just seemed like a white guy impersonating something between Otis Redding and James Brown. Portions of the song sound like a straight rip-off from "Hold On, I'm Coming." And although not as good of a singer, Mayer Hawthorne was doing retro white boy soul a few years ago.

Same for me. I have absolutely nothing against the band and would definitely see them again. The music just doesn't do much for me once I get past the "whoa this is a white guy doing old school" thing. That said, it's well-done, fun and I'd definitely drink some beers and watch them do it.

I think your point is valid. Live, their show really gets me going. Really awesome stuff.

and while their record is good, there is just no way to encapsulate the live act in the studio with them.

I'm not sure how you can possibly contest his claim. That is what a live show is all about: personal connection and experience. How can you possibly state that HIS SPaBB's experience wasn't a top 3 concert expereince for HIM?
