The end of an era with the New York Knicks

Remember that picture from 2010? The Knicks were so hopeful about their future when Amare signed that contract, and that was even before the Knicks received Melo in the trade with Denver.
Amare BALLED in that first season with the Knicks though: 25.3 pts (50% fg), 8.2 rebs, 2.6 assists, 2 blocks per game. He played 78 games that year - and from that season on it was all downhill for him.
Great player. I'm sad to see injuries derail his career like this.

Such a memorable era. You were, what, 12 when he was signed by the Knicks?

Knew he would fail when I saw the phone attached to his belt. You have pockets dood.

I remember he was on fire before Melo came. Was averaging 28 points until he showed up I believe. Was an MVP candidate as well. T

No. The Knicks have sucked since Patrick Ewing, John Starks, Doc Rivers, and Anthony Mason played during the Jordan era. I'm getting old, there's people here who have never watched Jordan play. Him playing the Knicks at that time was some of the best basketball ever.

Had Melo never come, I think the Knicks would've been better off.

Started with part of his hand falling off.

Wasn't he like option C at the time? And wasn't it universally panned as a bad idea? Where was this hope? Giving a dude with no knee caps a huge contract is just a no

In the four seasons before receiving the contract, Amare played in 82, 79, 53, and 82 games in those four seasons. Aside from that one season where he played in 53 games, he almost played in all 82 games for 3 seasons before getting that contract.
And saying he was option C behind Bron/Wade/Bosh really isn't a slight.

D'Antoni ran him into the ground in year 1.
The Knicks gave up too much for Melo.

Sure, he couldn't dunk as explosively as he used to, but he was still an extremely productive player.

At least he has his real career to fall back on

I wish I could bring back the Knicks of the '90's. It's why I became a Knicks fan.
Been tough to watch the past 15 years
The rivalries with the Bulls, Pacers, and Heat were just so intense. Man, I hated Those teams back then!

Trading Jeremy Lin was their downfall.
