but where do you have it ranked? In your top 5? 10? 20?

That's hard to do. It really was an amazing experience but what did it really revolutionize? It really is only fair to compare it against other games of the generation in some ways. It was the best game I played in 2013 for sure and maybe the best of the generation but that is subjective.

That's kind of my point, ocarina made a 3d transition, and gave us targeting (which innumerable games use)
But the last of us does kind of win on the immersion. I've never been as immersed in an experience as I have the last of us
I really forget about things and feel like I've become Joel and I live in this shite hole and I'm making decisions with my resources like I'm actually a survivor
I also think it's unparalleled in terms of voice acting. W earl brown as bill, Troy baker as Joel, Ashley Johnson? As Ellie. Nolan north as David. Chick from 24 as Tess. It so perfect. It was also the best looking game of the last generation IMO.
But yes, gameplay wise...it does nothing new

I haven't finished it yet. Got to bills town and lost interest. Don't understand the hype. I spent more time playing dayz when it first came out.

I understand why it was so well received and it deserves all the praise it got, but it just didn't resonate with me. Part of it is that I'm so fricking tired of zombies and they've never been even slightly interesting to me. The mindlessness of them makes them lack any kind of depth and every zombie movie/show/game just feels like an arcady slasher fest. I also could never get used to the mechanics in TLOU. I know the feel they were going for, and most people loved it, but they just felt awkward to me. That being said, the game looks absolutely stunning and the voice acting is the best I've ever heard. I want to love this game.

I'd rank it below any of the much larger selection of Xbox One exclusives

Same.
I started it first on PS3, but couldn't get into it. Started it again on PS4 to give it another try hoping it would change my perspective. The graphics improved and I got a little further in the story, but it still didn't hook me. Was pretty meh the whole time I played. I think I'll like dying light more

Bills town is where I really started to lose myself in the game. Once I got to Pittsburgh I was lost in it.
Playing through urban Boston I really didn't get the praise either. Once Tess leaves the picture, things really start to develop between Ellie and Joel and you see more interesting things
Small town USA
Pittsburgh and finding out what transpired there, while facing the worst enemy in the game, people. Being terrified in the hotel basement.
Suburbia
Rural Wyoming
College campus
The western winter
every place has a backstory that's just as interesting as what's going on (sewers outside of Pittsburgh) Plus when you handle things like an actual survivor, it just feels so satisfying
Honestly, if you play it like a shooter (like uncharted) it's not really anything special beyond the story, visuals and acting

I'm tired of zombies, but they're not even the biggest threat in the game. And it just wasn't "everyone's a zombie" it was presented in a very believable type of way, and the devestat ion caused by the collapse of society is just as important as the infected (zombies)
They're not zombies either, they're not undead. They're infected people who eventually die from the fungal infection (plays out like the actual fungus does with insects)

Right? terrifying, but not in a cheap way. It's all very tense and authentic

Not very high.
I've tried to finish this game at least 4 times and couldn't do it.

Where does it rank?
I just finished it for the first time last night and it was hand's down one of the best games I've ever played. Very few games can invoke an emotional connection/bond between the characters in the gane and the player like TLOU captured. Where does it rank for me? I don't know specifically but it's definitely way up at the top of the list. It's hard for me to rank my favorites because they're all special in their own ways but TLOU is by far the best game I've played in a long time.

I'm playing through a second time. havent played since it was released
My first experience was on the PS4 remastered version because I didn't have a Playstation when originally released. I started playing a little bit of the extra content this morning before work and I can't wait to get home to play some more. After I finish the extra content I'm going to start a new game on the harder difficulties.

So far my favorite part is using the bow. I can pick the arrows back up, I don't alert enemies
The bow quickly became my favorite weapon in the game for exactly the same reason: ammo and stealth.

I love the scarcity of items and scavenging for them due to an actual need versus trying to get everything I can.
I do as well. I love games of this nature where you have to consider your usage of resources and how it will impact your decisions like "Do I really want to use this for this situation and is it a justifiable use of my limited resources at this time?".

Favorite crafted weapon: Molotov cocktail. You just clear out the clickers because they go to the noise and they're blind.
Mine was the nail bomb. Especially in a larger group of the clickers that I sneaked up to. Throw one or two out and they all go to check and see what the noise is, and boom. Great crowd control.

Even when it doesn't work out to your advantage. I crafted that health kit, frick here is some health right here. I didn't use a shiv, then I find two that I can't pick up in the next 10 minutes of gameplay
But when you get to a section that requires ammo, you're happy as shite you saved it.
Better yet, when you get to that situation and you get so many head shots and hand to hand kills, you're still looking golden
You can also kind of create traps if you plan it out, but the best is still the bow and arrow. The sound effects too, man I get psyched when I kill someone with it

it's pretty high up there for me. really great game. youre right that it doesnt really introduce anything new, it just has flawless execution of narrative.
only part that really didnt do it for me was the beginning. takes a while to get going after the prologue. i dont rebuy games, but i had to get the remaster because i knew it was a game id replay for years.
