Single and dating at 40 = SUCKS

Don't get me wrong I'very had some fun but I'm not sure the time and effort is worth it. Dated a really cool , attractive woman in her late 30s who had no kids and had never been married (a rare find). Bit of a free spirit but she loved to road trip and be on the go. Only problem is she had a long term (3+ years) serious relationship with a guy from across country where she moved from recently that she stayed close with all though they technically were seeing other people. She was honest about him on the first date we went on. Her and I got as close as you can going out/hooking up for 3 months but you aren't going to beat 3 years of history. Sure enough he moved here the other day and that was that. We split on good terms and she wants to stay in touch but in all honesty only if her long term guy doesn't work out for some reason.
I've been out with other woman both online and off but the pickings of quality women who don't have a ton of baggage is slim. Even worse is the fact that 99% of my close friends are married with children so the social window there has also narrowed.
Anyone else in their late 30s/40s find themselves in this position? In some ways the freedom aspect is nice but I'm kinda ready to settle down with someone. There don't seem to be many great options when you're an average looking guy getting up in age. Online dating is ok but is requires WAY WAY more effort and the return just isn't worth it.

Bigger cities have more options. Not sure where you're at. The fact is that if you're single at 40 you obviously have some baggage or something in your life go wrong. Divorce, death of a spouse, crazy, etc. you're probably no different than them so just take the baggage and accept it.

This is a joke, but sometimes it happens. My father married my mother when my brothers were 7 and 3 (5 years before I was born), and if it wasn't for the lack of similar physical appearance, you would never, ever know that they weren't his children. They are not 'half-brothers', he is not their 'step-father'.
Of course, some children are intolerable little fricks. I guess he got lucky.

Pretty shallow statement right here. Some women are actually career-oriented and getting married has just not been a priority in their lives.
