Sorry if this has been asked before, but I have my dads old turntable I'd like to get fixed up for him. Any recommendations on a local place that could do service on an older turntable?

Thanks in advance.

Radio Shack use to perform that service a long time ago.

Nowadays I know more about what I need than the people in Radio Shack do.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I am going to try to call a few places today.

It might be pretty easy to fix yourself. What is the problem with it? A lot of times those old turntables just need some de-oxit spray on the pots, and maybe a new belt if it's a belt drive.

Advanced video on Sherwood
Very solid tech, refurbished a lot of old gear for me and has always done a great job

What he said. I'd look into it yourself first. Could be very simple and not worth shelling out +$200 to get it fixed.

I know nothing about turn tables, so please forgive me.

The Yamaha (P-550) is an automatic turntable and when I hit play, the tonearm rest will not allow it to drop down to start playing the record. There was a small screw on the rest that allowed me to adjust it down enough to where the tonearm would play the record. However, it is very scratchy and does not produce very good sound, which could be a result of needing a new cartridge or the records themselves (which aren't in the best condition, but should still play OK).

I also have a JVC (QL-A200) turntable that does not regulate the speed correctly. When it starts up, the platter spins faster and faster, and does not run at the correct speed.

Again, sorry for my naivety. This is why I wanted to take it to someone who knows what they are doing!

I have taken multiple older units(receivers, turntables, etc) to advanced video for various repairs and never spent more than $150. He can be a little slow so expect to leave it there for at least a week.

1 week is a quick turnaround for a repair shop. In Austin, some of the good ones have LONG waiting lists and you may not get your unit back for several weeks or more.

I'd call up some local vinyl shops and see if they might be able to repair it, or at least point you in the right direction.
