Monday night I had the pleasure of visiting the Surly brew house in minneaplis. This is the new facility that was just opened in mid December.

I grabbed two colleagues and we hopped in a cab from downtown for about a 20 minute cab ride. The brewery is also reachable from the light rail system but it was a 10 minute walk each way and it was buttass cold and I only had a fleece so we chipped in for the $20 cabride.

We got there at 6:30pm and the place was jam packed. We were told it was a 45 minute wait for seating so we put our name on the list and headed over to the "beer here" area of the bar and ordered some Abrasives on tap. The hop nose on those bad boys was off the charts...we didn't even finish the first round before our table became ready. Only about a 15 minute wait. We sat down and shared a table with another random couple. The good menu is really good. I had the smoked pork shoulder and it was fantastic...my colleagues had brisket and bone marrow and they each said theirs was awesome.

The atmosphere was lively and fun. The wait staff was very knowledgable. The bar staff all had hipster mustaches and beards as expected but the overall crowd was decidedly non-hipsterish. We enjoyed several abrasives, Todd theaxeman ipa...ovverrated...furious...coffee bender and possibly some others.

I went into the merchant shop.on the way out and grabbed an abrasive tee shirt and bottle opener. Reasonably priced.

We walked outside and waited for the cab next to a roaring fire and then hit 8th St grill near the hotel for a night cap (abrasive on tap).

I was highly impressed with the facility and the experience. The beers are cheap too...only 4 or 5 bucks a pop.

Looks like a blast Ryno

I'm likely flying into Minneapolis in September en route to Fargo and may try to run by there

They have a handful of absolutely great breweries and draft houses. Dangerous Man and Surly and two of my favorites

absolutely. but I always feel cool.

you should definitely not go there Zappas. The place is way too clean, big, sells merchandise and only has 80 or 90 bike racks outside.

Zappas - you should try the HUB Bike bar if you're ever in Portland, again. You can actually help generate electricity for the bar (and burn calories) by pedaling on of the stationary bikes in the bar while you're drinking...

Obvious statement is obvious.

Kidding aside, sounds like a good time, would definitely hit it up if I'm even in Minneapolis.

You were there this past Monday? I live in Minnesota and the weather was beautiful. I was talking with my neighbors outside after work and didn't even have a coat on. I hate to see what you'd think of our weather on an average day, or God forbid a cold day like today with below zero wind chills.
You southerners are spoiled wusses-lol.

Yesterday was colder, but Monday was nice. I even went for a long bike ride. Tomorrow wind chills are supposed to be around -20.

Looks like I got out just in time. You been to the new surly place? I'm hearing a lot of locals are butch ingredients because it's too packed all of the time. It was packed Monday but we didn't wait very long

I have not been there. Some of my friends and I toured the Summit brewery last summer, but I was disappointed in the tour and their beers. If you ever get back to Minnesota, visit the Minneapolis Town Hall brewery. They make some great beers.
