Around 32 million children in the US eat cafeteria food every weekday, and most of these students consume over half their daily calories at school. With this in mind, it's clear that school cafeterias are becoming crucial in the fight against childhood obesity. Sweetgreen—a chain of salad restaurants that runs a Sweetgreen in Schools program to educate kids about healthy eating, fitness, and sustainability—decided to shed light on what constitutes a quality lunch by taking a look at typical school lunches around the world.
In this thought-provoking photo series, we can see how our own country stacks up to other nations when it comes to nutritious, delicious school meals. From Italy to Brazil to South Korea, trays are loaded with colorful foods that include fresh fruit, veggies, and yummy-looking entrees. In contrast, the typical, processed lunch for US students could stand to get a menu overhaul.

And they probably provide their meals for 1/3rd the cost of ours.

Yea... I'm pretty sure the lunch pictures from other countries were taken from some elite private institutions. I just showed the Italy picture to a co-worker who is Italian and went to all of his school there. He laughed at it.

Yeah, likely. I think it's also probably bullshite that all those other countries' SCHOOL LUNCHES really look that good, though.

Those other countries are doing it right for sure. I would destroy that Italian lunch right now.

All those school lunches were taken on the same table and using the same plates. Maybe if the pictures were from actual school lunches and not staged photos.
Anyway, I loved the hell out of my school lunch growing up and I was never fat. It's all the twinkies and cookies that kids eat after school while watching tv or playing video games that make them fat.

I sent this link to my cousin who lives in Greece [She has two sons]. She basically said "That's not too far off"

I loved my .75 school lunch. That shite was amazing. It was good b/c the kitchen ladies hat to eat it too. I'd gladly eat what was offered at my high school for $5.

You big timing mofo. I'm envious of your reserved table.

So, are these from high end private schools in those countries or just from private schools?
Because I would guess MP Country Day would compete on this level.

I was about to say, that USA pic looks like it's from 5 years ago...no way they get chocolate chip cookies. Today they consider tortilla chips and a tub of cheese lunch

i get that US lunches suck, but this is almost assuredly contrived

Yeah...I'm calling bullshite on those other school lunches
Especially Brazil. No way the average kid in Brazil is eating that at school for lunch.

quote:I don't know what American school lunches look like nowadays. The USA photo looks pretty accurate from what I remember as a kid. But I do get what some of y'all are saying. This photo could mention whether or not the school was private or public.
