nah bruh, you good. late 08 and later 5.4's went away from that crappy arse 2 piece plug design.

Get you a 1/4 drive ratchet with long extension.Over 12" long and get a 7mm swivel socket for the coil packs.

Get a good 3/8 drive ratchet with over 14" long extension and a 4" long extension. Hook 14" long extension to ratchet, plug in 3/8 drive universal then plug in 4" long extension after that.Connect the plug socket to the 4" extension. This setup will allow you to access the rear plugs.

A gear wrench 6" magnetic swivel spark plug socket makes the job go a little quicker but isn't a requirement.

you have to have that 4" extension to get down in the plug holes on the back cylinders.

Something MJ2 didn't mention... Have a compressor with a long air nozzle so that you can blow each spark plug tube out with after you remove the coils.

Don't want any dirt/trash/debris falling down into the cylinder after you remove the sparkplug.

Have these things changed that much? Remove it, clean the cylinder if you can or if you need to, gap it, replace it, torque it and reconnect the wire. Seriously, have spark plugs changed that much in the last thirty years?

No, but my year(2007) and the ones around it were a pain in the arse. When I was about to do mine, I did a little research and there were tons of people saying they broke the plugs wen trying to get them out. The mechanic even said it's not uncommon for them to break one when they get one in the shop.

Man, I'd check the interval on those.

A lot of plugs go 100K.

I would cut your loss and replace the truck. I have had a lot of experience with fords. Chevy way to go.

I got a 135K on my original 4.6 F150 spark plugs. I bought replacements at about 90K and planned to install them when the gas mileage started dropping off. Still rolling on OEM.

100k is a conservative interval with OEM double platinum or iridium plugs. I pulled a set that had almost 200k on them and they had only eroded maybe 15 thousandths over spec on the worst ones.

Real trucks don't have spark plugs. Get a diesel and be done with them
