From all the great movies of the 80's (Scarface, ET, etc), where would you put "Raising Arizona"?

My favorite comedy of the 80s.

Princess Bride #2.

Trading Places, Vacation and Stripes all very high marks FWIW.

It put the Coens on the map and is a legitimately unique and great movie, but it is hard to beat Ghostbusters and Bladerunner for me (my 2 favorite 80s movies) - and you also had Ferris Bueller, Vacation and a ton of other great movies - you had multiple great movies every year in the 80s and early 90s - then - well, let's just say they're more rare over the past 20 years or so.

I started Raising Arizona a few weeks ago because I knew it was Coen bros. and because I knew so many people liked it. . . I couldn't even finish it. I was completely uninterested and bored after the first 30 minutes. That's the first, and only, Coen bros. movie I can say that about.

Guess I'll have to give it another chance at some point.

Not unheard of, it's a strange movie at first.

No doubt. "Her insides were a rocky place, where my seed could find no purchase."

John Goodman and William Forsythe were damn strong in it too.

So many great movies from 80s. It would be my choice for best movie of 1987, slightly beating out movies like Full Metal Jacket, Evil Dead II, The Princess Bride, Robocop, Empire of the Sun.

Apocalypse Now and Animal House were early '80s, right? I know Empire Strikes Back. How about Caddyshack? Late '70s/early '80s kind of blend together.

I've always thought Blood Simple was a better film.
