Anderson is playing sleezy on both ends. Flopping on D, leaning into contact on O. But you know what? That's what playoff teams have to do.

This is what I was thinking down the stretch and Mason put it perfectly. He made a lot of those smart plays tonight that veterans make down the stretch of games. One of those things that doesn't show up in the stat line but makes a huge difference. We need more players like that if we're gonna make the playoffs.

He actually played solid big man defense in general tonight. He still wasnt good on defense but alot better than his norm

agreed. Rebounding seemed to be an issue, but altered or blocked a few shots. He did well at that against Atlanta too. Its probably mostly teams adjusting and taking less care going against him because its not like he can grow taller or got more athletic. But who knows, maybe he's getting a little healthier? I certainly don't remember him being historically bad last year like he has been this year.

Ryno took 9 free throws in the 4th quarter. Helped get Pels into the bonus and Ibaka out of the game. Key to the game from where I sit.

He was hurt last year and last year he was bad on defense, however that dude did not miss last year so we didnt care how bad his Defense was

His best road game in a while imo

Didn't force things and was competent defensively

Last 7 since his one game absence:

28.8 MPG:

17.5 PPG
6.1 Rebs
43.5% 3 point FG
43.6% FG

That's the ryno we know

He made so many big rebounds and defensive plays down the stretch it seemed. As as ATL posted, he got to the line a lot and Ibaka fouled out. That's the type of veteran leadership and smart play we need. We've gotten a lot of it out of QPon and Dante, maybe its starting to rub off on other players.

Hopefully Tyreke figures it out soon because he almost singlehandedly cost us the game

He got a triple double so I'm pretty certain he has things figured out, but I know what you are saying. He made some really bone headed plays down the stretch that almost cost us the game.

Down the stretch, the matchups the Pels played on defense were questionable. Davis on Durant 25 feet out, Anderson in the paint, and someone guarding a non entity in Roberson. If you want rebounds, leaving Anderson alone in the middle is an odd strategy

Asking Anderson to protect the paint is and always has been sub optimal. That they intentionally do it over and over and over is baffling. He's been better the last few games, but he will always be limited there.

All that said, a great win with their backs against the wall.

Semi off topic but AD was on KD for a good portion of the second half and did really well. Durant started like 5-7 but finished 9-26.

We missed jrue bad though.

And Anderson did it on the road. I wonder how much we will have left for tonight.

I saw that in Schwan's recap on BSS. I don't particularly agree that Davis shut him down.

1st half, Durant had 6 shots either open or wide open and made 4. 2nd half, he had 8 and hit 2.

Looking back at it Durant's 2nd half shot attempts, I didn't see much of Davis stopping him. He was matched up on him only a handful of times, even accounting for help situations. He gave up good looks from 3 on simple pin downs in crunch time.

I'm not discrediting the effort Davis gave. But I don't think it's right to say he shut Durant down. And I certainly think it's fair to question having your PF and best on court rebounder and rim protector 25 feet out, guarding a premier wing in a tight game.

Think about it- when they screened for Durant, they got Anderson (or Asik) on him because the Pelicans switch everything all the time. Wouldn't it make more sense to put Anderson on Roberson, Cunningham on Durant, and Davis on Adams? Durant/Adams screen gets Davis iso on Durant rather than Anderson. If they want to pick on Anderson, they have run an awkward Durant/Roberson screen. And Davis and Anderson can help without much worry because Adams/Roberson don't bring much to the table. Davis on Durant also means Westbrook has no one to worry about at the rim.

IMO, Anderson, although he certainly has limitations, has never been as dreadful on defense or down low as some have said. And the guy does hustle. He's still good value for the money.

Anderson carries the "new" attitude of this team. When he plays like he did last night on both ends of the court, he is a key off the bench.

Regardless of what anybody points out concerning this year's ryno, he is still the #2 in the NBA in bench scoring. In other words, even with his liabilities this season (defense, road shooting), he is still one of the best 6th men in the NBA.
