Why can't good highschool qbs realize that the qb position is the missing link

Good qbs at lsu would have produced more national championships. If good qbs come to Baton Rouge, think it would be smart on their part!

They care much more about making it the NFL than winning in college.

They see that LSU has a tough time developing and sending QB's to the NFL.

We are a run heavy offense but considering the receiver that have come through and that we continue to get, it blows my mind national prospects do not seek us out.

It's fricking coaching and philosophy.

We have a top qb committed next season with a massive arm

And he will more than likely be a first round pick in the MLB draft.

Along with most other schools.

And this is different from last year and the Brandon Harris dialogue how?

It's about development. LSU has signed several talented QBs but they have not panned out. JJ, JL, AJ were all 4 stars I believe. Maybe it's coaching that needs to improve.

were jennings, harris, rettig not considered 'good' coming out of hs?

Maybe it's just hard to find a QB for most schools.

People look at one outlier like OSU and think if they can do it how hard can it be?

The J. Lee debacle automatically and conservatively excludes at least 50% of all potential QBs.

There isn't a college program on LSU's level that struggles at this position they way we have.

IMO LSU has done a poor job evaluating talent.
A great hs qb does not equal a a good college qb.
Lots of guys can run fast, jump high and throw it far, but they lack the mental aspect it takes to be above avg.

What? 4 of the last 6 lsu qbs went to the nfl. Cam is known as a great qb coach.

This is right on point, but won't resonate with this board.

If my son was a legit 4-5 star Qb I would want to see him play for a team that threw more. One solid year with Mett would not win me over. But, Les and cam would do a great job recruiting.

Come on. We evaluate every good QB in the country. Pretend you're the well balanced, talented but also smart and quick whitted QB. Other interested recruiters show you what happens to those types of guys at LSU. Now where are you going to go? We've created the 'double edged sword' and have to live with it.

Recruiting good QBs to LSU isn't the problem... developing good to QBs isn't the problem.

Forcing a QB to lead the team before he is developmentally ready is the problem.

Well, from 2007-2012, we didn't have a QB coach. Now that we have one, we should be landing big fish. Big fish sees the talent at WR and see an NFL QB coach who has coached some of the best this century, Maybe they start looking here. We have one on board already in Harris, with another committed. Now we just need to see progress at the position.

One thought that I have is that LSU doesn't give enough kids a chance to come in as quarterbacks. We have two (now three) scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. It's almost as if we only look for a perfect 5 or 4 star guy who has all the physical tools, and consider no one else. So we only take one guy, maybe two every one to two years because we're afraid of insulting them by bringing in more qb's.

So when all the eggs we put in those one or two baskets crack, we're left with no options at qb. Are we really sure these guys are the ONLY guys who could QB at LSU and win? Jennings, Harris and McMillan? And next year, Franks? We didn't recruit qb's hard this year considering Franks and Patterson for next year. We have one scholarship left over in this class. Who's to say LSU's qb of the future couldnt have been a three star guy still out there? Bring in more qb's to compete, and look for kids who WANT to compete.

This is the most important position on the field and we go into too many years with too few options and too little competition.
