I thought this crappie was a little unique so I had it mounted.

My Granddad caught this thing 50+ years ago when he lived in South America. It has hung on the wall over his desk since then. I asked for it when they were clearing out his old house. He had a full body mount as well but it was broken during shipping.

I'd like to have it restored somewhat. Not sure how much can be done to it. Might hang it down at the cabin at the lake and tell newbies I caught it off the dock.

I'd love to try and convince my wife to hang that up in the house.

It can definitely be restored. Just make sure that you take it to a competent, well respected taxidermist. New eyes, fill in shrunken areas, airbrush the correct colors, etc. It will look great, but it sure won't resemble what you have now. And therein lies the problem. It's kind of like reblueing an old, old gun. Do you want the original finish for the nostalgia and memories or do you want this piranha to look modern and new? Tough call. I don't think I would re-do it. Pow Pow caught it and this mount (or what's left of it) is reflective of "back in the day".

very true. I am worried about it degrading further though. He claims there is another mount just like this one somewhere in his garage. Maybe if I can find that one as well i can have one restored and one "original"

Like BFIV said, think hard before you get her redone. I had an old deer mount of my great uncle's redone. Looks great, but now wish I'd left it alone and old fashioned

Not too sure they didn't use your paw-paws mount as a mold for that critter 's mouth in them Alien movies.
