“Ultimately we want to see your best teams in the playoffs. And there is an unbalance and a certain unfairness. There is a proposal (from one of the broadcasters)… where the division winners would all automatically go into the playoffs and then you’d seed the next 10 best teams. I think that’s the kind of proposal we need to look at. There are travel issues of course, but in this day in age every team of course has their own plane, travels charter. I don’t think the discussion should end there. And as I’ve said, my first year I was studying a lot of these issues and year 2 is time to take action. It’s something I’m going to look at closely with the competition committee. I do think it’s an area where we need to make a change.”

He's so far and away the best commissioner in all of sports.

I applaud him for his progressive thought, but I don't agree with him here.

Adam Silver is a true commissioner of the people. My only fear is that NFL owners wise up and steal him.

Basically like what the SEC basketball changed to a couple of years ago?

There has to be some questions answered. Say the west has a team that is 50-32, but the East has a division leader that is 45-37? Would the East team get the better seed for being a division winner?

I love the idea. Would division winners get home court advantage?

Winning your division should only get you a ticket into the show, not reserve you a seat in the front.

I agree.

Just seems there would be a lot of questions dealing with seeds and homecourt..

It wouldn't be perfect to give them home court, but if it's the compromise that's needed to get this passed, I'm all for it.

Silver sure is getting alot of good pub, and making alot of allies, for saying all the right things.

But he needs to act on some of it. He can't do anything about gambling on his own, but the schedule and the playoff structure are his. Let's see him take action. Back up the talk.

Atlantic: Boston, Brooklyn, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, Washington
Midwest: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indiana, Milwaukee, Minnesota
Southeast: Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis, Miami, New Orleans, Orlando
Southwest: Dallas, Denver, Houston, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Utah
Pacific: Arizona, Golden State, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, Portland, Sacramento

No conferences, five divisions, 11 wild cards, seed according to winning percentage. Find a hole in this.

I think the division thing he mentioned was just because one of the broadcasters brought it up as an idea.

I hate the NBA divisions, so I would hope they would avoid that path.

The real issue is the balancing of the schedules because the disparity between the two conferences, but having OKC and New Orleans over Miami and Charlotte right now would still be a huge win.

It would also help with the lottery.

Why even have divisions? It's not like the NFL where you only have a 16 game season. At 82 games, an NBA can, and does, play everyone in the league.

That has nothing to do with anything.

I'm sure you would have to change the scheduling up, also.

He hanged an owner in the town square five minutes after taking office, and we're imploring him to take action?
