Little or no privacy.

We cannot go to Walmart in shorts, no make-up, and a pony-tail because we might run into a student and parent and wind up having a parent-teacher conference in the cereal aisle. Or a student might see a bottle of wine in our cart and when Monday comes, we hear students saying making jokes, like Ms. So and So is a wino, or Ms. So and So, you didn’t listen to the DARE lady.

Then there is social media, which has become a dangerous land mine. You have a bad day or a bad customer? No problem; many of you can rant online. If teachers do that, we get pulled into the office for our negativity. We even get chastised if a friend posts an inappropriate post on our page. Even with privacy settings, things get out, so if it is not PG, it doesn’t go on my page. Everyone says we have freedom of speech, but anything can be taken out of context and lead to a dismissal. Oh and did I mention homecoming week? Everyone’s house is victimized. If you are loved by students, only toilet paper awaits. Hated? Get ready…

That is why we cannot live a “normal” life. We are not “normal” people.

Holy shite. Get over yourself, woman.

I would hate dealing with the kids but the 2 months off plus Christmas spring break and all the major federal holidays would more than make up for all my hardships

My wife is a teacher and thinks this way too

I tell her she's overreacting

Her principal is very religious and doesn't drink and she's too worried about something getting back to her and getting on her list

To think, there's an entire underworld of oppressed scholastic baby sitters right under our noses. Crazy.

I could see some of that getting annoying, as a teacher you do have to look good and be a role model for your students. That would get old.

She's exaggerating, but there is some truth in that. She obviously cares about how she's perceived in public by her students. I would think the same way.

But there's no way I'm going to not buy booze or look like a bum in the store because of it.

bullshite.

Go sub for a day in an inner city setting close to your house, then post what you witness.

Being a teacher would be a nightmare for the majority of posters on this board.

I taught high school at a title 1 school for one semester (read "poor"). It was an eyeopening experience.

I can guaran-damn-tee teachers don't spend their entire summer doing this shite. I can also guarantee they have AT LEAST 5 weeks out of the summer to do jack shite unless they coach football or teach marching band.

I should not need to mention that during that time we attend workshops, plan lessons and rewrite curriculum we rework to meet changing standards, but, apparently, I do.

They act as though the rest of the world doesn't work hard. If they have it so damn bad, go do something else.

I also love how they whine about how much better other countries pay and treat their teachers. What they fail to mention is that those same countries also have a much higher barrier to entry in the profession. They can't go color with crayons in an education class in college and then be a teacher like some of these clowns can.

This is laughable. My wife is a teacher and she has run into her kids like once in 6 years

Is there a more important profession that is less respected than being a teacher?

Kids are awful, and dealing with them for menial wages would be awful.

I wouldn't say it's laughable

My wife runs into students, former students or parents nearly everytime we go out to eat or go shopping

Maybe it's less common if you live in a bigger city or don't live near your school

If you break it down by hour, teachers make about 25-30 an hour in most of louisiana

There's nothing worse than education majors on social media. After seeing what their finals and semesters consist of I'd argue they're not even doing real college work.
