Advice on new career, willing to switch fields entirely

I'm 24 with a Bachelor's of Science in Natural Resource Ecology & Management. I've got a job making 35k a year. Got a phone call this morning and found out that the funding for my upcoming graduate school project will not get secured and I should start to consider other options.

My job appointment ends in June, but I can get extended for a few months afterwards.

It's likely that I won't go to graduate school now. With this being the case, I almost want to switch fields entirely to pursue a career making a heck of a lot more than what I make now. I know a few people that could probably get me a plant job, but I'm unsure at this point what I'd like to do.

I was already planning on returning to school, so maybe I should go back and get a degree in something more useful and give up the wildlife and fisheries career path.

What say the OT? I know its ultimately my decision, but I just want to bounce it off of some people.

You're on the right track thinking about going back, assuming you can do it financially. I'd say go back with a practical major like sociology.

I have an idea of how to prevent coastal erosion by using non-biodegradable materials to form new barrier "islands" off the coast.

You want in?

Take the plant job if you can get it. Work a while, make some money, and get a new perspective on things. You can go to school at any point, but you might enjoy making a little money and being out of school for a while.

I work with a guy who has his masters in this field. So it might not be that bad a plan.

1. Nursing.

lots of women and tons of jobs after you graduate.

2. Computer science. take some accounting too if you go this route.

Take "speech" classes no matter which of these two you go.
Being able to do public speaking with poise is essential.

I like sociology but I wouldn't call it a practical major, relatively speaking.

My girlfriend suggested this. She's a nurse. Not sure I could do it. Likely wouldn't have a problem learning, but the nature of the work bothers me.

OP, what about radiology tech? I've got a buddy who did this thru OLOL and the boy is making bank. Of course he's been at it a while and now he does MRIs and such, but he has a great job, met his wife while in school ( plus a bunch of other girls he dicked around with) and seems to really enjoy his career.
