When MLS becomes relevant to the world, and produces elite players, are you going to stick to your foreign club or commit to an American side?

Definitely could never stop pulling for Spurs. MLS is probably 50 years away from having real tradition and being able to hang with the top leagues.

I'm going to become an Atlanta fan once the team arrives. Whether the product is decent enough to pass up my EPL interest remains to be seen.

If MLS was comparable I'd probably be MLS first.

No reason you couldn't follow both

Why would I have to only choose 1?

Maybe it's just me, but if MLS was on par with EPL I don't see any reason for having a favorite team outside the MLS.

This is probably correct. But do you see any basketball leagues competing with the NBA any time soon? The MLS is the equivalent of Euro basketball. Long way off.

So you can follow soccer year round for one. Also since I live in Louisiana, it really is no different to me if I follow a team in England or one in let's say Seattle. Both would be "adopted" teams

So you're asking if everyone on the board is a glory-hunting frick?

For the majority of us that don't live in an MLS city I think it is easier for us to pick an international team to follow than an MLS one. We already have preconceived notions and have associations with American cities which can make it harder to root for their teams.

Most people who follow an international team are not effected on an emotional level by that team's location.

And the quality of soccer is a lot better elsewhere and perhaps even more accessible for viewing on TV.

I doubt Man United or Barcelona fans choose another team across the world to root for.

Well ya. They live in Spain. What about the ones born and raised here who have chosen a team to follow in Europe.

I have several friends from Scotland who actually support 2 teams in the UK. They have a primary, Celtic but also another in England, like ManU, City, or Villa.

I see your point, but it's not the same. You can't compare U.S. fans with those fans because we weren't built on the same foundation.

I compare it to an Italian baseball fan... even if the sport gained popularity theyd likely still be fans of an MLB team.

It's hard to imagine MLS having the same magic.

Most European clubs have a relationship with at least one other club, some official, some not.

Makes sense

But if MLS continues to grow and expand and improve, why not have an MLS team you support and whatever one or ones you have gotten attached to in Europe?

I'm talking about people from here, not Europeans.
