Who on the OB has one of these and why do you like or dislike it?

i had one on my first truck - toyota.
was really handy and practicle, but it looks "old man-ish", which i can probably pull off now that im +40.
i used to camp in it on a bench system me and my dad built. also had a rod rack on the ceiling i built

Do you mean just a camper shell or one of the full on campers that go in the truck bed?

I have a full camper that sleeps 3 easy and even has a head. Dam thing weighs well over 2K. One has to have a 3/4 ton truck or bigger and a 8' bed for it to fit in. It's a older one that I completely rebuilt from the bottom up and inside.
A lot of room for the wife in I. Only problem I have with it now is that I don't use it. Been thinking of just selling it. It's been over a year from the last time we went camping.

I've had both a camper shell with sleeping/storage setup and a full giant truck camper. I use the latter as auxiliary living quarters at house in Montana. Then for base camp for backpacking etc. I may be using it for a ski trip in March. I've driven it across the country through very rugged terrain.
Tell me which type of set up you're asking about and I'll tell you more.
Livin Lite makes a very, well, lite TC that has no wood or Filon. No rot or delam issues and heaviness that used to be typical of TCs.
Downside is if you do damage it it's expensive to fix. But insurance is cheap.

As great as that sounds for a driver - at that point, I think I'd rather just have a trailer - a lot more flexibility for use. And, if only camping occasionally, you can rent the trailer.
If you're not in a situation where you're driving to a remote work area (or hunting/fishing spot) several times a month - and I would say 10 to 12 times a year, as a bare minimum, then this is a solution in search of a problem.

Great grandpa left me his old dodge with a camper shell when he passed, I was 15. Kept it on there about a year until I got my new fourwheeler. Had a twin sized mattress in the back, good times Really had no other use for it.

I think your understanding of renting a trailer camper is reversed
